View Full Version : Wide angle lens on Sony F3
Rudy Wilms October 24th, 2011, 06:41 PM I have a Sony F3 and I use all Nikon AIS lenses with the MTF adapter and I love them. Now the widest lens I have is the 24mm f2 but I would like to buy a wider angle like a 18mm I saw a nikon18mm ais f3.5 but also saw the nikon 17-35mm 2.8.Does anyone have experience with these or know what would be the best
Thanks Rudy
Duke Marsh October 24th, 2011, 08:09 PM The Nikon 17-35mm F2.8 AF-S ED lens is one of the finest lenses Nikon has ever made. It has minimal barrel distortion at 17mm and is a very sharp lens. The zoom range is very handy for indoors, yet its still capable of DOF control.
Morton Molyneux October 24th, 2011, 08:24 PM I also have a Nikon 17 - 35 F 2.8 on my F3 and can highly recommend it, an excellent lens as Duke says.
cheers
Morton
Doug Jensen October 24th, 2011, 09:07 PM I also have the 17-35mm f/2.8. Even though I don't really enjoy shooting with SLR lenses, I have to admit it is a nice fit for the F3.
David C. Williams October 25th, 2011, 02:33 AM You might also try the Tokina 11-16. I have the Duclos rehoused PL mount version and it's very nice. I've seen the MTF/Nikon version on an F3 too, and it looks just as good, if somewhat more fiddly to play with.
Rudy Wilms October 25th, 2011, 07:25 AM Thanks guys I go for the Nikon 17-35mm
Andrew Stone October 26th, 2011, 07:44 AM Yes another vote for the 17-35 Nikon F2.8. A remarkable lens and I agree with adding the Tokina 11-16 F2.8 to the kit if you shoot wide.
Dave Sperling October 30th, 2011, 12:04 PM I too been pretty happy with the Nikon 17-35, though I have noticed a little bit of chromatic aberration near the far left and right edges when at full wide on my lens. Not sure if it's a general problem or just an issue with my particular lens.
Chong Pak October 30th, 2011, 03:22 PM Been very happy with my Nikon 17-55 t2.8 and 12-24 t4.
Thierry Humeau October 31st, 2011, 02:44 PM How about Sigma's 17-50mm F2.8. It's got very good optical performance and a nice minimal focusing disctance of 11". I am not too found on its focus ring though but that is a common problem with DSLR auto-focus lenses these days.

Anf for something much wider, Tokina's 11-16mm F2.8 is great.

Take care,

Leonard Levy October 31st, 2011, 08:31 PM I've been trying the Rokinon 8mm fisheye but it doesn't seem that sharp to me. Anyone else try it out?
Is the Sigma 17-50 or the Nikon 17-55 parfocal?
Thierry Humeau November 1st, 2011, 06:37 AM The Sigma does, never tried the Nikon.
Thierry.
Rudy Wilms November 2nd, 2011, 05:07 PM I bought the Nikon 17-35mm F2.8 AF-S ED for my Sony F3 I did the first shoot today with this lens an I have to say it is a great lens on the F3.Video is coming next week.

Thierry Humeau November 16th, 2011, 07:11 AM Good work Rudy. I am currious about the type of slider you are using? Looks very smooth.
Duke Marsh November 16th, 2011, 08:26 AM A slider and a crane in a room with square walls and ceiling are places you'd really notice barrel distortion if you had it, and I didn't see it.
Looks great.
Rudy Wilms November 16th, 2011, 09:30 AM Thanks Thierry I use the cineslider with a tripod and a monopod and it works great
Ron Wilk November 16th, 2011, 11:19 AM Post deleted ... sorry.
Thierry Humeau November 16th, 2011, 10:16 PM Thanks Thierry I use the cineslider with a tripod and a monopod and it works great
How long is your slider, 3' or 5'? I have a 5' Glidetrack HD Hybrid and am really not thrilled with it.
Thierry.
Rudy Wilms November 17th, 2011, 08:04 AM I use the 3ft cineslider and it works great
Nate Weaver November 17th, 2011, 02:12 PM Not to threadjack, but if anybody is considering the slider from MYT works, it's tremendous, and I have indeed used the Kessler and much bigger ones like Fishers and Chapmans to compare it to.
Ned Soltz November 17th, 2011, 03:28 PM Also take a look at Dana Dolly

Really nice system. Like air hockey.
Is there a way to add drag to ramp a stop? Fingers ?
I added the Dana Rail system with SS rails and a Losmandy Spider dolly modified down to a 16 wheel mini dolly. A bit heavy but rock solid.
Chong Pak November 17th, 2011, 08:29 PM I have the dana dolly and for the price point, its great!
Also, you can make it any length you want.
Rudy Wilms December 7th, 2011, 09:47 AM For the short the FORGOTTEN I used just one lens the Nikon 17-35mm F2.8 AF-S ED .I love this lens.
