View Full Version : Probably a Stupid Question about iMovie

Hi all. I have a question that is probably very silly, but I'd rather ask now than find out "the hard way" later.

All those fun "trailer" templates that they've added to iMovie ... are those for personal use only? For example, I have a friend who has asked me to make a bunch of these for his new website, and has offered to pay me for them. Will this cause Apple's lawyers to come knocking on my door? Or am I okay to accept payment for these trailers as long as I credit Apple for them somewhere along the way?

See? Like I said ... stupid question ...

Thanks!
Vicky

The legal answer is... no, you can't use them for commercial purposes as that's the deal Apple has made with the artists who created the templates. This is assuming that your know that the templates are for personal use only because Apple tells you explicitly at some point. If you were using them for fundraising purposes but intended to create your own trailers in the future, that might be acceptable.

With a little work, I'm sure you could make your own unique trailers and not have to worry about the letter from Apple.

Thanks William. That's what I thought. It just means a little more work for me, and it might not end up looking quite as slick, but I'll get there eventually.

Now, the next silly question ... I'm safe using the stuff in FCPX, right? I'm referring to all their transitions, texts, filters, etc...

Thanks!

Absolutely safe. Purchasing FCPX buys you a license to use everything included in the program.
