View Full Version : multicam editing with time stretch envelopes

Vegas Pro 8
I have 4 recording devices and need to sync them on the timeline: 3 cameras (2 same, 1 diferent) and one voice recorder. I thought I was ready to edit, having micro stretched/shrunk as each device required; but when I created a multicam trak, all the envelopes consequentially were omitted, meaning the time stretches were absent and the elements were out of sync again.
My workaround I'm tryin now is to timestretch each element as needed again to resync, and then re-render each element seperately to lock in the new time rate, then bring them each back to the timeline and create a multicam trak - now without envelopes.
Is there a better way to multicam edit with elements that first need to be time-stretched/sync'd?
Thanks!

Hey Sam,
easy way without re rendering is,
sync all as you said,
then select each track ( hit D twice to get marquee tool), copy, then drop into a new Vegas comp/project.
Save as a Veg, eg Cam 1
Do this with all tracks, THEN, drag the Veg's from explorer into your multicam comp. And then make your multicam track.
Note. If some tracks dont start from frame zero, create an empty event to pad out the front end before you copy and paste to the new Vegas comp.
cheers

Thank you, Gerald.
I'll give this a try.
Is this project nesting? I've read it as a feature but have never tried it.

Congrats Sam, you are now a "Nester".

Any track or event level changes will be lost when you create the multi-cam track using the built-in multi-cam. If you used one of the script versions instead (like Excalibur or Ultimate S), the event level changes would have been kept.

Edward, are you saying that your event level changes will be lost when using the built in Multicam tool even when nested?
They are kept, at least in Vegas 10.
Has version 11 changed this?

Not when using nested clips - that's a totally different animal. In that case, the event on the timeline has NOT been modified because it's a totally separate project. But if you just drop an event on the timeline and modify it, those modifications will be lost when the multi-cam clip is made using the built-in multicam tool.
