I just found a Canon remote switch (RS80N3), I plugged it into the mkii and put it in live mode thinking I might possibly be able to start/stop recording with it. It would only take photos which makes sense because of what it is designed to do…..

I was thinking this would be an awesome addition to my mkii rig. Instead of having to move my hand to the back of the camera every time I wanted to start/stop recording, I could simply mount a remote switch to my handle and work the record button from there.

Is there something out there that I just havent picked up on yet?

just did a little research, looks like there isnt much out there that would work for being attached to a simple rig. Oh well, maybe the mkiii will have something like that will work...

Not really suitable for mounting on a rig I suppose; but you can use the Canon infrared remote controller RC-6 to start and stop video. You have to set the camera and remote to 2 seconds time delay; otherwise it will just trip the shutter as for stills.

I use this all the time when shooting myself as the "talent" and it works well.
