Hello again
Searched trough the treads to no avail.
How does one open the menu to view and set the sub menu.
I turn the power dial to a recording program or VCR, press menu button,
[ per manual ] but nothing changes, turn the Iris/Select nothing,
I know I must be doing something wrong or not doing something right, but what.?
The same with both my cams.
Any assistance will be much appreciated.
Regards
Allan

Thread title changed from "XL1s part 3" to "Cannot access menu."

Please do not use ambiguous thread titles on this site.

Please choose a thread title that accurately describes the topic of the thread.

If you press the menu button and the menu does not appear in the LCD viewfinder, then it's possible that the camera needs to be sent in for servicing. However it is very strange that both cameras are similarly affected, so it's possible that the user procedure isn't being done correctly.

I haven't touched an XL1 in many years, but perhaps another owner can step in here.

So Allan, you're saying that when you press the menu button, you do not see the menu appear in the LCD viewfinder, is that correct? And this is with both cameras?

OK now all sorted.
Many thanks Chris

We're not letting you off that easily Allan. I just spent 5 minutes and under no condition could I reproduce your problem. As long as the camera was on, the menu came up.

What fixed it?

That's not so bad. Now that you've tinkered around a bit, it's time to take a once over of the manual.
Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : XL1S (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/camcorders/professional_camcorders/xl1s#BrochuresAndManuals)

It should be informative now that you are familiar with the camera. I recommend just a read through then, after you've done a few hours of shooting, come back to it and read on subject you've had questions about.

Here's the manual I found from the Canon site above:
