This is not a question about whether striping tapes is a good idea, hard the camera etc. Those topics have been discussed.
I would prefer to stripe a tape before use. I am going to be shooting 24P on the DVX-100A. My understanding is that this mode = NON drop frame. If I stripe a tape in some other camera (an older cheaper camera) using NON drop frame, I would expect that to be roughly equivalent to striping in the DVX itself. Yes, and assuming nothing was terribly out of whack in the older cheaper camera.
(I had used the older cheaper camera to stripe tapes regularly when my primary camera was a GL2 and it worked well)
