We have an ongoing problem with Premiere CS 5.0.3 and Nano files. I am unsure if this is a Nano or Premiere issue.

System = i7 920, 24G ram, MPE graphics, clean, edit only system. Seperate drives for OS, data, pagefile, audio, video previews etc. etc.

We can load, conform and edit freely from 100gig of native EX MXF files from the PMW 350 & EX3 @35Mbps. However, we can only import and conform about 12gig worth of Nano MXF files shot at 50Mbps before Premiere crashes. We did not have this problem with Premiere 3 and the MainConcept Plugin.

I have imported the footage into multiple projects and then imported those projects into a master project, still crashes. I have explored every permutation of scratch disks and page file location and size. I have tried importing the nano files into a HD XDCAM 422 sequence, same issue.

The nano footage behaves perfectly within Premiere untill there is more than about 12gig, it imports, but falls over during the conform.

Any help appreciated.

I have been putting up with this for 12 months and using the SXS MXF's as proxies and dropping in the Nano files in before the grade. I have also been looking elsewhere on the web for info. We have reinstalled Premiere several times and tried it with and with out the MainConcept Plugin.

We welcome comments from others.

My initial thoughts would be to:

1. Ensure that you are using the very latest version of Premiere.

2. I would not use MainConcept, unless you specifically have a version for 5.0.3.
I thought that the MainConcept plug-in codec was for CS3/CS4, but they may have a specific version for CS5.

Pretty sure there is a documented issue with the Nano mxf (canon as well) files in premiere 5.0.?

If you search around this and adobe's forums you will find the threads.

Basically its a memory leak, as you import and work with the footage the memory load increases until it crashes / locks up.

Adobe's answer was that the codec is tightly embedded in CS5 and can't be patched, so buy CS5.5 where it is fixed. Not really the answer anyone wants.

I agree that Adobe Premiere 5.0 had a problem working with our files.

But, I thought 5.0.3 worked.

I believe Simon may be correct, with CS 5.0.3, there is a Memory leak issue which causes the System to use up all memory, wither its 4GB or 24GB, this exists with several different file formats, nano being included.

This has been fixed with Adobe Premier CS5.5, I have Confirmed this today, all 12GB was used on our Editor,

Also Main Concept is for CS3/CS4 files only, I do not believe they have a version for CS5, nor is their a need for one,
