I can no longer AF my Olympus 12mm. I have tried every troubleshooting hint in the manual but AF will not work. The same settings work fine with the 45mm.
Does anyone have any ideas - is it the lens?

Did you accidentally push (or pull) the focus thingy on the lens barrel and not put it back?

The lens has the ability to go into manual focus while the camera is in auto by pushing the focus shaft thingy. Simply pull it back into the default position and you can use auto focus again.

This is one of the coolest features of the lens. I hope that is the problem, otherwise you could have real issues.

Jeff, what and where is the focus shaft thingy on the 12mm cause I'm not sure what you mean

OK I've got it and pulled it out - it looks like it sizes the image up for focussing...but still no AF.
Nothing else anyone can think of?

second edit: it works!! thanks Jeff - never even read about that feature

Chris, if I may suggest, do get familiar with that feature, very useful and is one reason the lens costs so much.

I believe if the shaft thingy is pushed "back" toward the camera, then you are back in normal mode, and the lens should behave normally, like any other lens. If it's pushed outward, as you described, then you are in manual mode on the lens

I may have it backwards, by the way, I haven't shot with it for a long time, but you get the idea.

You have been around awhile, so I doubt you're making a mistake, but on the other hand, it is hard to fathom a defective lens, but I suppose it's possible.

Wait, is your dial on the camera set to AFC or AFS? It's not on MF is it? If it was then that would account for you problem.

All good Jeff and a brilliant feature - I guess if all else fails, read the supporting documentation !!
Never even thought to look - just thought it was a high quality lens
Thanks again

It is a brilliant feature, I absolutely agree, I wish all my lenses had it.
