Hi, I've just purchased a Panasonic GS400. I previously captured DV to my Studio 9 capture card from my JVC via firewire. The GS400 seems to use a USB output. Anyone tell me how to capture to a firewire input? Thanks.

The GS400 uses firewire for video, just like your other camera. The USB port is for still photos.

USB is also for WEBCAM streaming, I believe. But it is low quality.

The GS400 can transfer video over both Firewire and USB 2 High Speed. The firewire port is on the rear below the battery next to the S-video connector. Firewire is preferred because most editing software is already set up for it. You can capture video with USB using Windows Movie Maker or Motion Studio DV which comes with the cam. Video captured over USB is Type 1 and many editing software packages want Type 2. Also, USB does not allow export of the video from the PC back to the cam. You can only do that over Firewire.

Thank you guys. That's very helpful. I even found it in the manual, (once I knew what I was looking for!) under dubbing and copying. I must say, it seems a very impressive camera for the price. Thanks again for the prompt, helpful replies.
