Hey guys,

been browsing this forum for months, first time poster :)

Quick question - i'm using VirtualDub to stabilize some video footage. Workflow is as follows:

Export same as source QT from Avid - Stabilize in VirtualDub - Output as AVI - Import back into Avid.

Playback of the AVI file is fine on my computer, but in Avid it's extremely distorted:

Any clues?

Thanks for any info.

Hello,

It's been a while since I've used Virtual Dub. I take it you're not able to export from VDub in the same QT format that you imported? That's probably the problem.

Have you tried the Stabilize function Media Composer has under effects?

Also, don't know if you have it, but I think version 1 of Mercalli might be compatible with MC.

There also might be a way to add other codecs to Virtual Dub.

The quickest approach is to try Media Composer's own Stabilize effect.

Wish I could help more. You could search the User Forums on the Avid site with the keyword stabilize.

Thanks for the reply.

As much as I love most things MC has to offer, i've never had much luck with the stabilizer.

Virtual Dub's stabilizer is absolutely fantastic, and I made decent footage out of some extremely shakey aerial shots.

For future reference, my problem turned out to be Virtual Dub exporting the video as progressive, then Avid bringing it back in as interlaced.

Glad to hear that it was just a settings issue.
