View Full Version : Getting to sync - advice

Hello,

I posted this in the non-linear section, too -- but since it's more of a sound issue I thought of looking for advice here, as well.

My FCP HD set-up is as follows (I have an Apple G5):

- for video, I use Blackmagic Decklink Pro to send the signal to a good JVC CRT monitor (TM-H1750C)
- for audio, I use the Digidesign M-Box (connected to my G5 through USB) to send the sound out to a pair of m-audio bx8 speakers

Everything is fine except that I do not have sync between the video and audio when editing. I think it's the video that takes a while longer to reach the JVC monitor.

What is the best option to have such a set-up work at its best? Anyone has the same set-up and can give me some advice?

I could mention that the Decklink has also audio outputs but since it's a card built primarily for video I am wondering about its sound quality as compared to the M-Box.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Use the audio on the Decklink. It's very good, and it's buffered correctly for the video send. The MBox is not. the audio quality of the Decklink is likely higher quality as well. I don't use the Decklink with my FCP system, but I do use it with my PC system. It sounds great, even through a hyper-suite of Hothouse monitors. M-box isn't bad by any means either, but if you've got good sound on the Decklink, use it.

for future reference, please do not cross-post in multiple fora.

Thanks!

Last worry: if I output all sound through the Decklink, will it be in sync with video played on the Apple main display (not on the CRT one)? For example, quicktime movie clips, or DVD discs viewed through the apple dvd player on the lcd display.

If yes, the only solution would be to connect to decklink if I'm viewing video on the JVC and back to M-Box if i'm viewing video on the regular display?

Thanks!

PS And sorry for cross-posting.
