Dumb question(s) from a newby. Can you suggest a good BASIC book on video editing. I am trying (just starting) to create some DVD's and am unable to use the video editing software that I have (Corel and Sony). I am unable to open a VOB file with either program. What format should I change the VOB file into in order to edit it. Nope, I am not a blond. Jim Moffitt

Are you shooting with a video camera that records onto mini DVDs?

Yes, records on mini DVD's (3 inch ?). Camera is a Canon DC320 and I have recorded on both DVD-RW and DVD-R. Same results on both types of media. Can't read VOB files. with either Sony or Corel. Thanks for any advice. Jim Moffitt

Try changing the file extension .vob to .mpeg.

If that doesn't work, us MPEG Streamclip - open the DVD, then go to File > Save as MPEG.

With Sony Vegas it should just work. What version are you running?

I have Vegas Movie Studio 9.0, but to say that I am using it would be a real stretch :(. Jim

In Sony Vegas connect your camera to your computer or copy the VOB files to a directory. Go to File>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc. That will pull the files into your timeline and rewrap the footage so that Vegas will work easily with it.

Thanks Garret: OK, will try that. Thanks for the info. I will also try changing the file extension per Ervins advice (didn't know file extensions could be so easily changed).
Sincerely, Jim
