Finishing a major project and suddenly I'm getting this:
"An error occurred while creating the media file, the cause could not be determined"
Vegas 11, latest version, windows 7. File size makes no difference as it suddenly won't render any project to Main Concept MP4. Anyone worked through this?

What bitrate are you trying to use? A lot of times if it is over 18,000,000 bps you'll get this error. try lowering the bitrate or use one of the default settings to see if you still get this error.

Thanks but it won't render any Mp4 files no matter what the size or bitrate. Thinking I may have to reinstall the operating system after I get through this project.

Reinstall Vegas and see if that fixes it.

Tried that a few days ago, didn't fix the problem. Should mention that it's happening in both 32 and 64 bit versions. I don't have time to do a system re-install so I think I'll do a system restore to a month ago and see if that helps. Vegas 10 seems to render but I can't open this project in 10, suppose I could render an AVI master and render to MP4 in 10.

FYI: Mainconcept MP4 was designed for older generation iPods, not HD.
Sony AVC is what you encode in for HD MP4s. There you can set the profile to be High with CABAC with 720p and 1080p resolutions. Your max audio bitrate is 512kbps AAC and your max video bitrate is 20Mbps.

This thread is kinda old, i hope you solved the problem already. I had the same problem, and found the solution on another forum. There's a bug in how Vegas uses the CPU/GPU. Go into the MP4 render options and change the procesor option (I forget the name) from automatic to CPU only. Did the trick for me.

Thanks for the reply. Once I upgraded to V12 the problem cured itself but good to know about that fix.
