Hi guys:

Having a little problem finding it in the manual, but if I wanted to create a title card from scratch, what are the steps to do so? Also are there some pre made title cards provided within Vegas Pro 12, or would it be available within the forum? or both?

Thanks!

Robert

By title card, do you mean a slate to identify a program?

Not so much a slate, but more like title and end credits to a show or a layer that I could add text or animated text to the video. (such as lower thirds, etc)

You just manually create your own.

Yep, some reason I'm just having trouble finding where to go to create one manually, and if they had a few pre-made that I can play around with, (just like they do with the transition)

Understood. A lot of folks on here make their own titles, credits, etc.
If you're not that creative (and I'm not), there are inexpensive apps like the recently introduced TitleStrips, part of FASST APPS from VASST.
They work with Pro 10, 11 & 12 as well as Movie Studio Platinum 12.
Each package is $10 or less and comes with a selection of lower thirds that can be used in any production.
By way of introduction, they're currently offering CinemaLooks1 and TitleStrip1 for free.
Go to the link below, add these items to your cart (they will show up as $0.00) and then check out.
As I recall, I got an email sent to me with the serial numbers.

Digital Juice also has a wide range of packages for doing things like this.

If you want to spend even more time and money, there's always After Effects and Boris FX but both come with a price and a learning curve :)

Thanks Mike:

I'm having trouble finding online a tutorial (either video or article) that could show how I can create one
manually. I'm not picking the right keywords. Could I trouble you for such a link that provides
an example of how to make one?

Track 1 - a Title generated media
Track 2 - whatever you want behind the title. You can use an image. You can use generated media. You can use Pan/Crop, Pan/Crop masking, Track Motion, etc... to size and position the background.

Take a look through my newsletters at www.jetdv.com and you will find an article on doing this in one or more of them.

Hi Ed:

Could you point me out to some link within www.jetdv.com. I couldn't find a search window to do a search
and having trouble finding examples that give examples of one adding text to a video.

Thanks!

Robert

at jetdv, go to the newsletters archive, and download all of them (PDFs). You'll want to read them all, well worthwhile.

Hmm... that section of the website appears to be down right now...

Edward?

Robert,
The first one that comes to mind is December 2004 Vol 2 No.10, page 3 "Creating lower thirds."

However to do a tile page you need to do a thing or 2 differently since you want the title page to cover completely.

Open Vegas, add 3 video tracks. To make it easier, name them
Track 1=TEXT
Track 2=Background
Track 3= Video footage

For track 3 add your footage.
For track 2 decide if you want to use a background for your text OR if you want the text to show over the video footage
For Track 1 add Generated Media Text.

If you're going to use a transparent background so the text runs over the footage pick a generated media that is transparent (or go to the properties tab of the media and lower the opacity or background colr to zero) Type in the title(s) adjust the position to taste and you're off and running.

If you are going to use a background be it a solid color or a gradient or a motion background that would go on track 2.
Set the amount of time you want it all to run and then set your footage to start at the end of the titles and BAM! You're done.

It sounds more complicated than it is but you can play around to your hearts content and not hurt a thing.

Remember the TEXT always goes on the top track, background goes to track 2 regadless of whether it's a generated background or video footage.
Using Pan/Crop and Track Motion you can adjsut the size and position of the text and background.

Hey everyone.

Sorry for the delay in writing, for some reason, I was having trouble logging onto DVinfo, where I would get a blank screen everytime I'd check the forum but I can see now.

Thanks for the links and pdf, I'll let you know how it goes or in my case what questions I have in trying them out. :D
