Hi guys,

I´m very new to sound and I´d like an advice on a hypothetical situation....you´re interviewing a person in a round press full of people and you´re only allowed to stay about 10ft away with an H4N and an NTG3 and you cannot boom. Is there a particular set of settings on the H4N that would improve lateral sound rejection? I mean, I´ve seen settings like "mid", "side", "comp", etc.

thanks in advance

Rafa

No, get it close to the sound source ..OR, use a proper external mic and get that close to the sound source.

No amount of settings on your reorder will adjust the pickup pattern of the mic you have plugged in. The NTG3 is a shotgun, so it picks up most from the front, and rejects more as you get farther off-axis. Getting in closer or getting a more directional mic will achieve what you're looking for.
