Digging deeper into the captioning capabilities of Vegas 12, and surprised to discover that it can do pretty much what VASST Captioning Assistant can do, albeit in a less elegant fashion.

One critical exception is the simple task of ending, or stopping a caption on the timeline.

Operating from the Edit Details window, with a list captions loaded..... I play from the timeline and drop in the captions sequentially by hitting Ctrl + K. The inserted caption stays up until replaced by the next caption.

My question is, is there a command that will end the current caption as playback continues. Caption Assistant has both an "Add" and "Turn Off" switch.

Does "Turn Off" exist with the Edit Detail functions?

If not, then when captioning with Vegas' built-in capabilities.... once you place the first caption, there will ALWAYS be a caption displayed until the end of the timeline.... that can't be true.

Try {EDM}{EOC}

I guess that's part of my troubles... I'm not familiar with implementing the markup commands. It sounds like it may be possible to map a markup instruction to a keyboard shortcut?

According to the markup list, "EOC" does in fact end the current caption, but it automatically moves to the next caption. What is needed is an "off" command for the current caption. "EDM" may address that, but I don't know.

I'm still on the very basic ground floor of markup implementation. Are there any tutorials?

When I insert a command into the edit detail, it doesn't seem to take effect.
