Very quiet on this board these days - looks like 3D has been replaced by 4K madness!!

However, I just returned from my local cinema having shown several pieces of work, some 2D, originated with Sony EX cameras and RED, and a selection of 3D projects - all I can say is wow!

Making a DCP that works correctly with cinema servers is not without its problems, but now I have it nailed down.

I know that all of my personal 3D project work has been shot on less than marvellous camera's, nothing remotely "Broadcast" but with great attention to detail during the editing process - but I must say I am absolutely delighted with the results - especially pleasing were some of the 2D to 3D conversion files that I have worked on - particularly this one:

which, despite some errors I am aware of, looked amazing on the silver screen.

I also showed this:

Xufei Yang Bach Violin Concerto G minor Snow Mix 3DSBSa - YouTube

which looked unbelievably good.

How do you convert 2D to 3D? Is it good enough?

The 2D to 3D conversion work I have completed used PFDepth by the Pixel Farm, and yes it is pretty much state of the art - I watched some of my work in the cinema - it looked perfect - my interest in this is for close up work, where, rather than using a 3D rig with very small IO I can adapt macro 2D shots to satisfy my 3D requirements for a project I am working on.

Carrying a mirror rig up a mountainside may be possible, but not for me alone !!
