I am using a Iriver 880 to do some recording. It's working fine. How do I trim the audio ? I set the Iriver up and record about twoo hours of audio. now i want to use only about three minutes of that audio . How can I shorten or trim that file ?

Do you mean non linear editing software ? i use Pinnacle Studio 9Plus . If I add The file from Iriver ,it tales up the whole audio track . Any other software programs to trim with ?

If you're in a Windows environment Google up the program "Audacity" and dl it. It's a high-quality, freeware sound editing program that you could use to trim your audio files before importing them into your NLE timeline. Of course, your present NLE would do it too but you might find a dedicated audio editor a little easier to use for this purpose and what-the-heck, it's free.

For future reference, if it's practical for the type of material you usually shoot, an old-fashioned clapstick slate at the head (and maybe also the tail) of each scene makes it easier to locate the scene boundaries visually on the timeline waveform when splitting one big file into individual clips and it gives you a sync reference for matching to the video.

There is also Sound Forge and Audition as two excellent audio editing applications. The 60.00 version of Sound Forge is more than enough for what you'd be looking at. It can also scan the silent parts and get rid of them automatically
