I am looking for 2 shotgun mics for this camcorder. I am on a budget. I would like to know anyone's input on a mic that will fit this cam under $100 each. Thanks so much for suggestions.

Why two, if I may ask? There's no reason to mount two of the same mic on a camera.

Any XLR shotgun mic will work. However $100 is a bit low. The best you're going to get is an Azden SGM at around $150, and it's not very good. I recommend the Rode NTG-1 or NTG-2 at $270.

I have two camcorders. My bad for not saying that.

Scott I bought the Audio-Technica AT875 to use on an XA20 and I think it doe s a real good job. It's $149, a bit over your price range but just wanted to throw it out there for ya. I haven't tried it on the AC90 and probably never will. I'm am well please with the internal mics and the auto management of the AC90 for wedding use.

So your internal mic on the 90 seems to be pretty good or as good as the shotgun you bought? Well, I have not tried it out for anything like that but if that is the case that would be super.

And I guess if a shotgun is really needed, I would go over the 100 bucks and pay what I needed for a good quality one.

No I'm not saying its better than a shotgun. I'm just saying for an on board camera mic its pretty darn good. The 90 has several settings for the mic setup and one does a real good job of picking up your subjects and not you or what's beside and behind you, unlike the XA20. I was really forced to get a shotgun for it.

I'll give another vote for the AT875R, best bang for the buck shotgun for on-camera use, I've used them for my last three cameras and love them. I currently have one mounted on my AC130 with a Rycote Mini Windscreen and windjammer cover, and also use one off-camera in a Rycote S-Series windshield for audio as well. I've other specialist mics (stereo, cardiod, lav) but the AT is my go-to mic for general use.

One great feature about the AT875R is the short length; even with a softie or miniscreen wind cover on it, it won't intrude into the picture at all.

Be sure to get a good wind cover, without long straggly hairs though.
