Hi everyone,

I'm usually hired as a camera operator but I've never been hired to do video editing. I'll be speaking with the client next week and negotiating my rates but just wondering what I should consider or questions to ask before taking on this project. Also I'm not sure if I should charge by the hour or a day rate. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My 2 cents:

- When I shoot, I get hired on a day rate (sometimes half-day IF it really IS a half day...)
- When I edit in my own suite, I bill hourly, minimum one hour, thereafter quarter hour increments.
- When I edit as a guest in someone else's suite, I bill hourly with a 4 hour minimum for "dragging me out" of my office.

thanks. I ended up charging them a full day since editing and grading will take a few hours anyway but like you I charged less if done at home instead of their office.
