Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has used the (genuine) Sony NP-F960 or NP-F970 batteries in their EA50, and if so, what is the approximate run-time of each?

Just trying to work out what I need to buy to sustain my EA50 for a ~14 hour shoot.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Jody

According to the spec the F970 battery will last 540 minutes if the camera is left running continuously which is 9 hours run time. However if you are starting/stopping/zooming etc etc then the "typical" run time drops to 330 minutes which is 5.5 hours. Technically as long as you don't use extra power for the camera and can change it half way then 2 x 970's will carry you for 18 hours.

I'm assuming here than mains power isn't an option??

The furthest I have run my 970 was at a reception until midnight but actual record time was closer to 2 hours and the battery dropped to 88% ...they last a lot longer than most cameras!

BTW: The 960 is no longer made by Sony ..it was replaced by the 970 which lasts longer ..any 960's you find will be 3rd party batteries!

Thanks Chris, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Unfortunately mains power isn't an option as this particular upcoming event. It's so far out in the bush that we will be without cell phone reception for upwards of 10 hours.

Now that's a scary thought ;)
