If you submitted an entry for the UWOL29-Light, you are a judge.

Rule 9:
Judging – All players who submit a video automatically become judges in that round, with the exception of the DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge, where donors to the charity pool also vote. Videos will be available for viewing and feedback after the deadline. At any time after that, judges may send their votes for the top three videos by email to uwol@dvinfo.net. In your email, include the player’s name and title of video along with the placement (#1 #2 #3). One vote per judge/team, and no voting for your own video. Videos should be judged 50% on best use of theme and 50% on overall production value.


Voting closes at April 8, midnight wherever you are.

Still pending upload of 2 entries. One due to a power- and internet failure, and one due to late received upload instructions- eh... an admin with sleepy heart.

You make the judging sound so easy. I've watched the videos twice now and like different ones for different reasons. Some great uses of the theme (well everyone else did anyway) and then how to compare aspects of the production? I think I'll have to watch a third time and make a scoring system for theme use and production. You guys are making this hard, in a good way ;-)

That's why it is called a challenge. :)
With so many good films to choose from, the judging can be more challenging than making the films sometimes.

I agree with you Andrew it is not easy at all. I personally have found the simplest way to judge these films is to give them a score out of 10 (5 points each for theme use and for production values).

Theme: interpretation and how close it hits the mark.
Production values: final production quality and entertainment value (taking into consideration the contribution made to this by things like the story, camera work, lighting, sound and V.O. etc).

Obviously as it is an outdoor and wildlife contest, the films should reflect this.

Maybe others have a better way of doing this.

This is what rule nr 9 say about judging: "Videos should be judged 50% on best use of theme and 50% on overall production value".

I consider these things when I judge a movie (on a scale from 0 to 5).

Theme and story?
The flow of the film (editing)?
How was sound, light and color?
Background music and other audio, too much or too little?
Was it exciting? Fun? Annoying?
A soundtrack can give life to a movie, or destroy it.

Considering only two players have voted so far, I'll extend the voting deadline until APRIL 10.

Rules and guidelines for the judging can be discussed and improved.
I'm always open for ideas and suggestions. It seems like several of you already use a similar "system" as I do myself.
