I had just installed Vegas Pro 13 for the first time and had just entered my serial number and went through the registration process, Vegas crashed IMMEDIATELY upon launch with CFHD.DLL being the culprit, this is the Cineform codec. I am running Cineform Studio Premium v2.0.1.319. There are a number of people complaining about this on the Sony Vegas forums, and their solution has been to uninstall Cineform, my entire workflow is based on the Cineform codec, so uninstalling it is not an option. I also reported this to Sony Creative Software. I guess I should add that this is on a machine running Windows 8.1.1, haven't tried it on my Windows 7 machines yet.

Problem Description
Application Name: Vegas Pro
Application Version: Version 13.0 (Build 290) 64-bit

Fault Module: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CFHD.dll
Fault Address: 0x000000C2E20649C7
Fault Offset: 0x00000000000049C7

That is clearly a Vegas bug as that DLL hasn't changed in a very long time.

Likely FFDshow or something else modifying the way codecs are managed. It is not CFHD.DLL that is the causing the problem, many Sony users having issues will other VFW components.

I agree, I'm certain it's a Vegas bug as Cineform Studio Premium still works fine with Vegas 12, as well as all my other software. My post was more of a "heads up" that there's an issue and you will probably be inundated with posts like mine. By the way, do you happen to have any insight why Vegas 12 won't smart render Cineform files anymore?

GoPro to the rescue, they have released a new version of CFHD.DLL which has solved my Vegas 13 crash issue in Windows 8.1.1.

It needs to be copied over the old DLL in c:\windows\system32

It is not a patch everyone needs, why it wasn't posted, it was intended for support distribution only. Not for 32bit systems, not needed for anything but Win 8.x.
