Thought I should post this up in case someone has a solution.
First, Premiere is the one NLE I am least experienced with. I just started learning it last Spring. I am not a full time editor so I can be missing something really simple.
Today, I tried to import .avi files that were originally captured from DV tape in another NLE several years ago. (I can't remember the name of it but it was put out by Corel)The imported clips play fine in Premiere but they do not have any audio. There is a little audio icon in the bottom right corner of the clip in the library but there isn't any waveform info. The original files do have audio when playing the files in windows media player. This is the first time I have tried to import .avi files into Premiere. I have done plenty of projects importing AVCHD files from other sources without issues.
After scratching my head for a while, I finally broke down and grabbed the 'ol XL2 off the shelf and found the original DV tapes and did an old fashion capture using Premiere. The new .avi files play with audio intact. I hope I can find a solution to this issue as I will occasionally have to use this older archived footage and I really don't want to re-digitize everything.
Thanks for your help! Joe
BTW: Running on a new Dell as of this Spring with lots of RAM on Windows 7
