I'm trying to squeeze a few more years out of my mid-2011 Mac mini. I was surprised to see that OWC offers a kit to install a second drive, which I'd like to use to install an SSD. Does anyone have any experience running Final Cut with a configuration like this? How well does it work? Should the operating system and apps be on the SSD? What about the media? Is there any advantage to having the project files on one drive or the other? Also, would it give me more of a performance boost to install the SSD or double my RAM? I currently have 8 gigs installed.

After boot up speed and some performance boost from installing a SSD drive, in a MacMini you'll see more of a performance boost in FCPX from doubling the RAM over anything else.It will give a very modest speed boost for renders. Most of the performance in FCPX lies in the CPU or the video card, both of which are minimal for the program in a MacMini.
