I hit an unusual snag today.

In a project I am doing I am using spoken audio from two different sources. Each was recorded at different times but the all the audio from each source was recorded at the same time and at the same settings.

I have just finished episode 6 in the project and while there was a minor difference in the volume from each of the sources it wasn't great. I just put a volume envelope on each and for one it was about 1db and for the other -1 or 2...

However today I began work on episode 7 and when I imported the audio from the second source, the wave forms look the same as in earlier episodes but the volume was very different, one need to be at about 10db and the other at -6 or 7 to get the volumes comparable.

The only difference that had occurred was that I had upgraded to the latest build of Vegas...otherwise all the files are identical...

Any suggestions as why this could be?

Slider in the header set wrong?
Check the menu in the header also as well as the master mixer. Might want to see if there's an envelope there too since you're looking at everything else.
If all else fails...reimport the audio.

The slider in the header is set at zero for both tracks...
Not sure what you mean by 'the menu in the header'...
I've put in envelopes to adjust for the difference...
The master mixer just up and downs the volume of all the tracks...
Will try re importing...

Renton, try opening a new project and just putting in the audio from both sources and see if the problem is still there, just as an experiment.

open the project and in the audio header there are 2 sliders. One is volume and one is pan. Place the cursor on the pan slider, click on it and a drop down menu will open. It has options such as "add" "-3" "-6" and so on. It is yet another way that Vegas gives you ways to control the audio. Just thinking that maybe somehow it got opened and changed. I always set mine to "0db" and not "add" but that's just me. I think opening a new project and reimporting might be the way to go.

Duh...(smacks head)...found the cause...

I have three camera angles, thus three audio tracks, even though only one at the end of the day is providing audio for the project...the other two came with the video and enabled syncing via Plural Eyes.

I had forgotten to mute the two unused tracks thus had a three tracks of audio providing volume...

Ahh, done that as well. See, we've all done goofy things before so nothing anyone does is new. Glad you got it without any damage.
