Has anyone had a chance to tryout the 3DR Solo drone now that the gimbal has been released? Would be interested in some first hand reviews other than the ones posted on 3DR's website. Thanks!

I was also very curious about the solo with gimbal (Im a phantom and yuneec user)... unfortunately I've read some bad reviews .... take a look on rcgroups.com on the 3DRsolo forum (inside multirotor talk section)

good luck

I ordered from B&H on June 20th. My gimbal is scheduled to
be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday Sept.22) I am leaving on
Wednesday (Sept.23) and will be on the road for at least a week
to 10 days shooting a docudrama. I will be bringing it with me
and hopefully shoot a few test shots with it. I will certainly be
doing a review on it, but it might be a little while until it all gets done.
I have had issues with the live feed, but the Solo itself is very easy
to fly for someone like me who has never flown any remote control
quad befor.

I had an unfortunate accident where my controller fell off the roof of
my SUV and shattered into a million pieces. Therefore, even though I had
my quad(ordered in June received in July) and my gimbal (ordered in June, received in
Sept.), I still couldn't fly. The controller was back ordered and I just now got it
in. I tried a flight today and can tell you this. I've never flown a quad before
but the Solo is nice and easy to fly. Better yet, the 'smart shots' are really
neat because you set them up and just concentrate on camera work.
Gimbal footage is really smooth and looks amazing. You can choose
what GoPro to fly on it. I also really like how the whole system fits in a pack.
I haven't use any of the Phantom stuff and it may very well be as nice as this, but
I can say, this system is really nice for a camera guy, trying to get into aerial
video as opposed to a RC flying type that wants to get some shots. More
to come, along with a blog post/review.
