LOL! And it's variable too! Just fold it over for more diffusion!

An 8K Varicam in the $80-100k range?

An 8K Varicam in the $80-100k range?

Maybe that too, since it's has the varicam logo, some are saying the AF200. "Mobile cinema acquisition is about to change… forever" is a pretty hefty claim.

Maybe a global shutter?...

The shape looks like the 35 version from last year and LT might reference 60 - 120 VFR AVC-Intra4K-LT.

Maybe it records to Etch-A-Sketch?

Hopefully not an expensive "Mini" for flying on drones.

Maybe it records to Etch-A-Sketch?

But will the Etch-A-Sketch be able to handle 444 in 2bits, that is the real question ;

Is the 4K LT format 4:2:0 10bit? or 8bit? Press release was very vague about details of the LT format.

Good question. I've put it forward to my contacts at Panasonic.

Here's the reply I received from the Varicam product manager at Panasonic:

Q: Is the new VariCam 4K LT format 4:2:0 10 bit? Or is it 8 bit?

A: All of the codecs in the VC-35 / VC-LT are at least 10 bit 4:2:2. There are no 4:2:0 codecs in the VC-35 or VC-LT for recording on the main slot.

Very nice. In the very least 10bit 4:2:2 is a really good sign. We'll have to see a file in practice and examine it to know for sure, but it's sounding good.

Thanks Chris, I'm amazed I guessed it right. :-)

The camera was on display at a rental place in Boston today and I decided to go and get some quick shots.

Here is an interesting video from Newsshooter with an interview of Geoff Boyle giving his opinion on the Varicam LT and comparing it to other cameras in that price range. It has some great bits of info on the Varicam LT but I really liked the way he weighed it against other cameras and how he sees them in a practical sense.
