After getting my FS5 camera I noticed that the mic clamp was a lot larger than my Rode NTG-3 shotgun, and that Sony's mic spacer was way over priced, so I found a solution that will cost you .44 cents. Normally I would use my Rycote Lyre shockmount that fits into Sony mic clamps, but on the FS5 they have added loose rubber to act as a sort of shock mount, which results in a very wobbly mic, especially when using my Rycote mount. This solution probably won't work on all mics, but it can help if you just want to put your mic in the camera's clamp.

Frugal fix at it's best.

The Sony OEM mic spacers are $11 on their site.

My AT875R came with 2 o-rings specifically for Sony or similar cameras with spacers. Fits snugly despite being O-rings.

Good to see there are more options. I was happy to just drive for 1 minute to the local Ace and get a mic spacer for .44 too. Whatever works is great. I still preferr using a Rycote Lyre shock mount. You can get more handling noise directly in the mic clamp of any camera.

Forum Note: For some reason I'm not getting email notifications on this forum, even though I have "Instant email notification" selected when I write responses. The notifications also aren't going into my Junk folder. Is there a trick I'm missing to enable notifications? Anyone?

Hi Guys, I've done similar things with a strip of neoprene.... but the old news guys fix; if you weren't using a Sony mic, was a few turns of gaffer tape around the mic before placing in the Betacam mic holder...

cheers

This is what I did, and has the added benefit of having a 2 foot strip of 1" wide gaffer tape with you at all time. :-)

Does Sony still sell these things anywhere? I cannot find any on any Sony website and my Rode NTG-1 and NTG-4 wobble around the Sony PXW-Z280 and Z-190 camera mic holders like a limp "you-know-what".

Why bother with Sony when you can buy the exact same thing. I bought five of them and cannot tell the difference from the Sony ones. $3.00 each, value.

Could not find any with that link you posted to eBay but I did fine it here: PCV Sony-Type Rubber Microphone Spacer (http://www.precision-camera.com/pcv-sony-type-rubber-microphone-spacer/)

Yes same thing but three time the price! In the past I even used those Neoprene type mouse pads and cut strips out of them and that worked surprisingly well.

Sorry I tried shortening the link and it didn't work out by the looks of things. Try the full link:

Only thing is those ship from China so it could take up to a month and with shipping, the price isn't that much more.

True. Neither figure is a breaker. Mine arrived in about a week. China/Hong Kong to Aussie isn't too bad.
