I have been more than happy with my C300EF using it for broadcast, corporate and documentary work. But I have been wondering for some time whether to upgrade to 4K.

Is the C500 still a good choice? I was hoping to reuse the same batteries and CF cards as I understand they are the same. I also have the VideoDevices PIX-E5 4K recorder which I was thinking could be a good choice for recording 4K with the C500.

The C300MK2 seems to me a bit pricey considering the competition from the Sony FS7. Also new batteries and CF cards would put the price up considerably.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I used to be a Sony shooter, but I like the Canon`s better for skin tone and just the image overall.

The C300 Mark II is everything the C500 is, but internally, and with better color science and noise levels. I love mine.

Your Pix will not support any of the outputs from the C500, besides plain old 8-bit 1080. You would need the Odyssey or Apollo with the Raw bundle in order to record anything over 1080p30 in 8-bit.
