HI, I've tried importing an AVCHD file into Premiere Pro, and there's a missing file. When I open it up through Quicktime, I can see that there is indeed a missing file. I can't recover any files from a card as this was from months ago.

How is it that there is a missing video file? Is there any possibility of recovering it from the AVCHD file if it's not showing up? Do I just write it off, and move on?

Not sure if this is relevant to your instance, but I have on occasion needed to use proprietary software supplied with the camera to download all files associated with the video clip. This is certainly the case when using clips that have been automatically split during filming to enable continuous running, so it could be that the file was not recognised during download and was simply skipped.

Others may have more information regarding the possibilities of recovery or running without the missing file.

Best practice is to create a NEW folder on your hard drive, then copy ENTIRE contents of SD card into that folder. Included all folders from card. Use a separate folder for each SD card you copy. Name them CARD1, CARD2, or whatever works for your needs. No special software needed, just copy all files over to drive.

In Premiere, use Media Browser to do the importing, rather than File > Import. Media Browser is a tab at lower left if you've not used it before.

You will get best results using this method, including seamless joining of spanned clips from long recordings.

I understand you no longer have the SD card, so this will not help with current situation, but follow this practice moving forward for smooth sailing.
