Heya All,

I am a vegas video user, what is the most usual way to output my preview footage onto a tv monitor.

I know i can use my camera as a DAC via the firewire port, but that seems cumbersome, is there another way.

Are there firewire breakout boxes with DAC's built in?

I am really not sure, as there are no hardware cards designed for vegas video.

Look inot the canopus advc100. Might be what you want.

Vegas is designed to output to monitor via the firewire connection. It is the BEST way to see the preview on the TV. In order to do that, you need *something* to convert from the firewire to the TV signal. As you mentioned the camera will work fine - you just have to leave it connected and ON. As mentioned, the ADVC convertor will also perform this task. Personally, I have a deck whick also works for this purpose and I do not have to use a camera for capturing or print to tape.

Now it seems a long time later, i have a monitor.

But back to vegas.

I am getting not to fantastic frame rates outputting onto a tv monitor, and i would like advice on how to get it to hover around 25fps.

My machine spec's are.

p4 2.8ghz, 845pe mainboard with 1gb ram.

2x seagate 7200rpm 80gb drives. (optimised by norton twice a week, read. defragged)

By the way i am in pal land.

I would have thought my machine is fast enough, but it seems to getting only 15fps or so, which is kind of dissapointing, maybe i have a setting wrong, i am just using the default setting. I am previewing at it's best setting.

Please suggest a way to get this up to real time, i am not using heaps of streams or any effects, this is just watching a clip, (after it has been pre-rendered)

After it's been pre-rendered it should play in it's full frame rate?! Ed, any idea what could be his problem?

Is DMA turned ON for all your hard drives????

yes dma is on, and also i should note it plays back fine when previewing on the screen, only slows down once i try and preview externally.
