Hi, just wondering has anyone found a longer life battery for the Sony FDR-AX53 ?

My local high school is buying a Sony FDR-AX53 and would like a battery/s that will last longer than the one that comes with the camera.

Thanks in advance.

Wrote an answer but it got "lost", so here is the short one.

Yes, there is a larger mAh Sony battery, the NP-FV100A
https://www.sony.com/et/electronics/handycam-camcorders-batteries-chargers/np-fv100a
3410 mAh, 145g (approx.) with the green code on the end.

Site sponsor B&H has it for $178.

Amazon has it for less but the picture doesn't have the green code on the end.
Several review questions abut if it is "genuine Sony" or not but answers are somewhat of a mixed bag.

The counterfeiters have raised the bar so be careful about grey-market and knockoffs.

For school use where various people can check it out for use, the quality control to ensure what is returned is what was checked out will be important as this is not a cheap little battery.

The newer NP-FV70A gives you a fair bit longer runtime than the original NP-FV70. Well, that's been my experience between the 70s and the 70As on the Sony X70 and the later Z90 cameras. Obviously, the newer NP-FV100A at twice the capacity will give you longer runtimes but they are not cheap.

For long runtime shooting off the tripod, I ended up using these "USB Power Supply Adapter Charger Cord Sony Handycam Station Dock Charging Cradle" cables purchased from eBay. I think the Sony FDR-AX53 has exactly the same power input socket. They work very well. I run the cameras off 15,000 or 20,000 mWh Power Banks used for charging iPads and the like. Just make sure the Power Banks you use have 2Amp USB outputs. The newer NP-FV70A has a rating of 1,900mAh so you do the math. A far cheaper 20,000mAh has ten times that capacity. I haven't tested it out to see if the runtime is 10 x as long but they have covered long boring corporate streaming seminars for well over half a day with tons of runtime left.
