For filming birds and other wild life is there a way to set a prerecord that gives you a buffer for the start of a action sequence? I am rubbish at predicting when a bird will take off 😆

Is possible using the S&Q settings? With out using slow motion frame rate?

No, the NX80 does not have prerecord, which, by the way, is always called Picture Cache on Sony cameras. However, the NX80 does have two functions called End Trigger and End Trigger Half that will give you similar functionality when you're shooting with the camera's Super Slow Motion mode. It is a great combination of settings for shooting wildlife.

On the X70, NX80, Z90 et al there is a workaround. A suggestion related to me by a news shooter who uses this method on stakeouts.

Set the camera for dual record but on the two separate record buttons. Card A on let's say the rear record button and card B on the top handle record button. It's all in the record settings menu. Now while on location waiting for the "event" to happen start let's say card B. This will leave card A to record on when you see the action start. If you miss the start of the action on A you know you have it covered on card B as it is continuously rolling. If long wait times are involved stop card B every now and again and delete the last 15 minutes or whatever and then restart B for another 15 minutes or so. Picking up from B what you missed on A is easy as the time codes between the two cards match exactly. Find your start time on card A and then go back ten seconds or whatever you need on card B.
