Folks:

I'm putting together a proposal for an equipment purchase around $50K, for field and studio production. Green screen work will be a major element, so I'm intending to take advantage of the improved color space parameters of the HVX200 for this bid. Assume two complete packages, and two editing setups, based around a FCP platform. I'd love to hear recommendations on specific hardware and configurations (include rough prices if you know them).

Sure, I'm having you guys do all the work for me...! No really, there's a wealth of knowledge here and I'm sure there's going to be some interesting insights. Have at it! Live vicariously!

Well, I had fun with this. I just started building on what I'm getting already, multiplying times two, then adding stuff that's out of my price range but would be awesome to have.

2 HVX200 field kits with mass storage and cases, tripods, wireless/wired/shotgun audio ability, 2 high end Mac workstations with Final Cut Studio, HDTV/pro audio monitoring, all with shared secure RAID-5 with Fibre Channel speed 7TB network storage, workstation collaboration ability with no sneaker netting or confusing localized drive workflow. I know I'm missing something here, but this is pretty monsterous. Prices are just list or standard sale price. If you purchased all this at once, I think you'd get some significant attention for discounting.

More news. Looks like HighPoint has a Mac driver for their RocketRAID 2320 PCIe SATA card now.

While not even comparing to the power of an Xserve RAID/Xsan storage networked storage solution, Granite Digital, Mac Gurus, Firmtek, etc, have external SATA semi-perm fixed, or hot swap drive solutions. Although it's localized storage, about $10k would get you 4TB per Mac edit system. Or say 1.5TB each ($2200) for a total of $4500.
