What is the price $199 or $229? Watchdog says one, Varizoom site says the other. Can it be shipped outside the US

VariZoom Lens Controls

I just wanted to post a note that brings attention to VariZoom's terrific customer support and relations. I have a PRO-LX that I use with my XL1s. There has been some problems with the PRO-LX and the XL1s "standby" mode. To their credit, VariZoom has been very responsive and offered me a loaner until the problem is resolved. I must say, it's quite unusual to find a company so willing to help out. Kudo's to VariZoom. They've earned themselves a dedicated customer.

I also have the XL1S and just bought the proLX what is the problem with the standby function? also have you noticed that the zoom control buttons have to be pressed down all the way to activate zoom( not very sensitive to touch)

George, I also use the Pro-LX and have the same problem with the zoom buttons. The buttons also become intermittent if when fully depressed, you move your finger a little from side to side. To Varizoom's credit, they did send me another unit, but it exibits the same problem. I don't know if I've discovered the "correct" pressure or if the buttons are getting broken in, but they do seem more consistent now than when new.

The stand-by problem affects only the XL1S and when the VZ is connected, the camera will not go into stand-by mode. Varizoom is aware of the problem and they are working on a solution, but I haven't heard that a fix has been found yet. The camera will properly power down the tape transport with VZ attached if you have chosen that option.

If you don't like the way the buttons function on the Pro-LX, you might want to look into the "new" PG-L. It is a bit more compact overall and does not have the rec search buttons, however it does put the focus buttons on top, which I like a lot. The "old" PG-L had buttons for zoom like the Pro-LX, but the "new" PG-L has a rocker, which I like a lot better than the buttons. The "new" PG-L is now my favorite VariZoom controller. If you can do without the rec search buttons and the data code button, then I highly recommend the PG-L. Hope this helps,

This is Tom McKay from VariZoom. I wanted to let everyone know about a few new products we are about to introduce at NAB Expo.

We have so many new products that I won't list them all but I will list those that are most relevant to this forum.

1. VZ-Stealth LX This is our new Stealth control that includes a few extra features: Data screen on off, frame shuttle + and -, also auto focus. PLEASE NOTE: Auto focus feature on any control is not much use to 3 ccd camera user. The reason being that nearly all of the top 3 -ccd mini dv models are incapable of using this auto focus feature. The GL1 and GL2 are the exception and these camcorders make full use of the options. Most all 1ccd sony and Canon cameras with lanc will work including PC series 100 and up.

Xl1, XL1s, pd150, dsr250, Vx1000, vx2000 do not support auto focus. The slide switch on the side of these cameras to choose auto/manual locks you out of this option.

2. FlowPod This is our entry in to motion stabilization and we are very proud of this new creation. It keeps the weight centered over the hand which is less fatiguing. With our patent pending locking handle it doubles as a high strength monopod. One other feature of this unit is it allows for stabilized Low Mode operation with the optional low flow kit.

3. VZ-Rock This is for the users that feel more comfortable using a rocker type control. This unit is fully loaded with all the features of the NEW VZStealth-LX. We made this unit extremely sturdy and machined the shell and precision rocker from solid aluminum.

It cost's a little more than a Stealth due to extra machining and a little less than our popular VZProL and PGL

4. VZ-DVXFF This our new Follow focus control for the DVX100 control. It has 4 positions you can mark in and either manually dial to pre programmed positions or you can push a button and go there automatically.

5. VZ-StealthJVC Stealth JVC (For JVC 300-REM) In a joint venture with JVC VariZoom created this control for the NEW DV300-REM Streamcorder. If you already have a Streamcorder and you want to have studio control you will need to arrange to have your camera shipped to JVC to be flashed with new compatible software. This is estimated to cost $200. including roundtrip shipping and hardware. The REM version of this camera is not shipping yet but will include the compatible VariZoom software.

Not available on web site as of today but you can see the control and camera together at NAB in both the VariZoom and JVC booths.

I was wondering how the LED battery strength lights (Green, red, red, red, yellow) on the new Varizoom battery pack are setup? I'm guessing that when all the LEDs are lit it means fully charged and as the battery strength decreases --- fewer and fewer LEDs are lit until only the yellow (or maybe none) are finally lit?

Is there a ballpark figure for how much strength is left with a particular LED light combination:

All LEDs lit (including green) --- 100%
Four LEDs lit (Three reds and the yellow) --- ?%
Three LEDS lit (Two reds and the yellow) --- ?%
Two LEDS lit (One red and the yellow) --- ?%
One LED lit (only the yellow) --- ?%

Maybe it is: 100%; 75%; 50%; 25%; 0% ????

At any rate, I really like the new, improved, compact battery and the way it is mounted. Very ergonomic...
