Jerry Porter March 20th, 2006, 06:59 PM Hated the video!! BUT loved the creative energy. You guys go to NC A&T?? If you are local send me a PM and we should hook up on a real project. I'm looking for some creative input on a new project and have ALL my own gear. Keep up the creative work and energy. Get better at sound and lighting. Chad Huntley March 20th, 2006, 07:11 PM haha that was an awesome video. Could you explain how to create the bus running over the biker during editing? Thanks in advance. Thanks for the compliments everyone! The scene was actually pretty simple to do, just required a bit of image editing in post. First what we did was setup the camera on a tripod, then, had me cross the street on the bike, then bike off camera. We timed it so that after I crossed the street safetly, a bus drove by. In Premiere, I placed the clips ontop of each other, then cropped the right side of the "me biking" clip. So for the first part of the clip, there were two seperate clips playing. As soon as the bus was in contact with me, I took out the "me biking" clip completely, then replaced myself with a image file of me on the bike. I then keyframed it out of the scene and added the sound effect. Hope that explains it well enough John Holland March 20th, 2006, 09:07 PM Thanks, Lighting and audio are something I'm working on and getting better at, but all things take time. I'm in the Greensboro area (of course I go to A&T) so I'll definitely send you a PM about your project. I need all the experience I can get (I'm also getting ready to purchase a camera and equipment of my own) Andrew Wills March 21st, 2006, 04:50 AM Hello everyone! I've decided to post a link to a short film I made a year ago (Graduation short), that scored me a First for my degree. I've only recently managed to wittle it down to a more comfortable 10 minutes, so it's now up on MediaSpine and TriggerStreet. Synopsis: A horrifying tale of a mother and son terrorised by the mysterious and supernatural presence of a young boy. Kim, a young mother going through a tough divorce whilst working two jobs in plagued by visions of a nightmarish incident, which took place in her past. What are these visions and what do they mean? Link: http://www.mediaspine.com/media.php?id=10&type=Video Download: (13mb) http://www.mediaspine.com/files/aramitama.mov (Right click and Save Target As) Notes: If anyone is interested, the film was shot over 3 days, for £500, on a Canon XM2. The lead actress is called Maye Choo, she has since worked on BBC's Silent Witness. The young lad was called Brandon Mac, and has never acted before! Any further questions feel free to ask! Let me know what you all think! Travis Cossel March 21st, 2006, 11:43 PM I enjoyed it. The pacing was good. The scares weren't too over the top. The story and style weren't all that original, but you did it well, so that's okay by me. I did feel that a lot of the scenes were way too dark. Sometimes it was hard to see what was going on. Also, there were a number of scenes where the actress had a lot of backlight and you couldn't see her face very well. It would have been nice to have some additional light on her face for those scenes. This is all said, however, without any knowledge of what tools you had at your disposal and how many people were helping you out. Mostly I just wanted more light in a lot of the scenes. Everything else was done very well. Andrew Wills March 23rd, 2006, 05:26 AM In terms of tools and crew, I used a CamCrane 200, and a GlideCam, although the GlideCam was useless due to the small corridors, and I was a rubbish operator! As for lighting, all I had was one red head, three gels, (Red, Green and Blue)some diffuser (which caught fire), and a reflector (which was useful!). Crew wise, just me and my fiancee! I could have had a larger crew, but that house was so small, it would have made the shoot much longer just by moving people about! I prefer smaller crews anyway, things seem to get done quicker! Glad you enjoyed it though! Thanks for your comments! Any more? Andrew C. Stewart March 24th, 2006, 01:27 PM Really good stuff. The shot in the church is almost identical to a sequence we just finished shooting. Crazy! Erick von Schulz March 24th, 2006, 08:07 PM Here is a clip from a video I am posting right now..... it is a little low budget and cheasy.... But funny as heck..... it was shot on a cheap DV camcorder. but looks pretty good. It is pretty compressed on google's site. but the DVD looks incredible...... Let me know what you think.. Even if you hate it...... It was a three day shoot with my new $3,000 camera (Panasonic DVX100B) and a few lights and fancy tricks. Enjoy! Richard Darge March 26th, 2006, 01:47 PM Shot this 2 days ago on the HVX using SD - dumbed up the image to give it 'the look' - took about 6 hours to cut enjoyo http://hvx200.moctel.com/Users/rgdfilms/truth.mov http://youtube.com/watch?v=f7Fek_rIIo0 Glenn Davidson March 26th, 2006, 02:28 PM This is the first DVi video I viewed on my new Apple Cinema Display. I like your lighting, the bouncing cam, the profile at mic shot and the talking mirror image. That camera (and op) make for a very nice filmy look. Oh and nice job syncing the whole thing. Overall, very good. Raji Barbir March 26th, 2006, 02:34 PM THANK YOU!!! i've been making jokes on my blogs about this dumbass "truth" crap forever. I'm glad someone finally made a mockery of the commercials i hate so very much. Oh and btw, i'm a non-smoker. I'm just tired of seeing one retarded, pointless and ignorant anti-tobacco commercial after another Nathan Donnelly March 26th, 2006, 02:58 PM Hey everybody, just got done with our studio's second project, a music video from local Seattle-based industrial music act Tau Factor. It was shot over a weekend on various locations, but primarily onboard the USS Turner Joy, an inactive Destroyer docked at Bremerton, WA. The other shots were done inside a small studio with greenscreen capabilities. (I was both the director and the DP) The video was shot with a Canon XL2 and edited on Final Cut Pro with assistance from Motion with some animated effects. Enjoy: http://www.resonancedigital.com/motionless.mp4 (35Mb Quicktime) http://www.resonancedigital.com/motionless-hires.mp4 (153Mb Quicktime) Richard Darge March 26th, 2006, 06:09 PM Thanks Raji Please feel free to link the video on your blog p.s. i'm a non-smoker too, i just hate those ads Ahmed Aboulnaga March 26th, 2006, 06:16 PM Hey folks, I am working on an amateur movie (in Arabic) and have posted a teaser trailer online. http://yasserwayousef.com Although the site's in Arabic, the buttons have English translations (you should download the trailer that has English subtitles). Just to give a brief intro... I have never taken any type of film class in my life, and everything is pretty much self taught. This is my first time acting, directing, editing, producing, and pretty much doing everything myself. All filming was done in the Washington DC area. I used a Canon XL2 and Adobe Premiere. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Jeff Cottrone March 26th, 2006, 08:17 PM Hi John, I enjoyed both the video and the song (the last dollar part of the song more). Anyway, I'm wondering how you did two things: 1. Make the scene bounce--is that done with the camera or in post? 2. You do this several times, but at :31 in, there's a stutter in his movement effect that I like. Do you take two separate clips and just cut a few frames of each together? Or is it two separate parts of the same take? His head is very close to aligned as his body stutters. John Holland March 26th, 2006, 09:25 PM To make the scene bounce, I did it with the camera just by shaking the tilt to the beat of the song. I originally thought they did that in post but by a pure stroke of stupidness, I found out I could do it just by shaking the camera lol. Those stutter parts are actually unedited. Everynow and then the camera shaking and his movement would synchronize in a way that made his movement real stuttery. It was an accident that turned out to work. Glad you liked it, it was a great learning experience and hopefully I will build off of this. Olivier Bonenfant March 26th, 2006, 10:11 PM You can download it at http://www.theactionfilm.com/ It's my first post but I'm a longtime reader of this forum and dvxuser (the usual) Random information about the movie: - Shot with a Panasonic DVX100B and a Sony Digital 8 TRV250 (for reasons obvious in the film) - 22 actors - shot in two days - over 25 special effect shots - the film is french with english subtitles - amateur short film made for a contest in Quebec by the National Film Board of Canada; got ranked in the 10 best out of 335 films submitted - also very amateur in terms of costs to produce it: less than 300$ (beer, props and renting the camera) - 4 days of 3d renders - over 80 hours of post prod in Adobe Premiere, Adobe After-Effects and 3D Studio Max. Don't hesitate to leave comments on the film as I'll probably do some more changes if I try to push the film into more film fests this summer (see if my short film is worth it) Thanks. Andrew Todd March 27th, 2006, 12:02 AM anyone watch the show entourage? Glenn Davidson March 27th, 2006, 01:14 AM anyone watch the show entourage? ......."LHIOB" Andrew Todd March 27th, 2006, 07:45 AM lol..... . Jeremy Hughes March 27th, 2006, 09:04 AM nice work! Just plain wrong but nice work -ha! Jeremy Hughes March 27th, 2006, 09:54 AM Is there a reason you rendered the 3D so flat and cartoonish? If you are going for realism - maybe try grabbing location HDR photos and rerendering while splitting up your renders into passes so you can really blend in your effects. Also, when the chopper is shooting at you and the rockets are bursting, throw some camera shake into the scene and some heavier dust? Fun concept - I liked it but IMO I think with the quality of the footage you really need to push for photoreal renders that blend well - kinda like what Tetra Vaal did... or the Toyota truck meets meteor commercial Glenn Chan March 27th, 2006, 03:36 PM Is it wrong to like this? Anyways, the credits are nice. Nick Ivanov March 27th, 2006, 11:22 PM I found a nice way to combine two of my hobbies photo/video and RC models :) The setup is: 420 lines bullet camera, 2.4 GHz transmitter/receiver, 12 dB yagi antenna, recorded on DV camcorder. I wonder if anyone knows how to disable AVG and auto color functions on these 'bullet' cameras. Mine is based on chipset from Sharp. Thanks. http://myphotomagazine.com/rc/video/BurnabyLakeVideoDownlink.wmv Rob DuBroc March 28th, 2006, 05:09 AM "well you ain't gettin my $4.50, that's goin to weed bayyyyybeeee" "shaniqua johnson-third grade-elbow drop-knock'd her azz out-true story-bring it on" I chuckled.. couple clever lines in the script. Not bad. Rob DuBroc March 28th, 2006, 05:21 AM tear down the cheek dude.... good work haha John C. Chu March 28th, 2006, 08:12 AM Whoa! You can make your own "Top Gun" movie! [I probably wouldn't want the propeller in each shot though...] However--you can mount it sideways, and facing backwards also right? Good stuff. Somehow, I think there is a heartwarming family movie about a little boy or girl that builds a r/c plane with their parents and flies it in some kind of "championships". And of course--a bad guy that flies rc planes with a bad attitude. That last shot as the plane comes down from the heavens and taxis towards the operator is something you don't even see in movies! Nick Ivanov March 28th, 2006, 04:37 PM John, thanks for the note. However--you can mount it sideways, and facing backwards also right? Even better, I am going to mount it on a servo, so I can pan using a second radio. This was just our first attempt to get some video from the craft. I am more interested in how to disable the AVG and auto white balance on Sharp bullet camera. Anyone knows a resource that will help me do this? Thanks. Olivier Bonenfant March 28th, 2006, 04:51 PM Thanks for the comment. I'm indeed a lot more efficient in After-Effects than I am in 3D Studio Max, turning the helicopter scenes into something more absurd and cartoonish than I wanted at first. With a budget, it's clear that I should go with someone who's really good at 3D instead of doing it by myself. The stuff coming out of The Embassy Visual Effects (Tetra Vaal, Scion, etc..) is just amazing; tightly integrated into the real world. Andy Graham March 28th, 2006, 05:50 PM [I probably wouldn't want the propeller in each shot though I was up in a light aircraft getting some shots for a film and when I looked at the footage i noticed something strange....as the pilot banked round into the sun I put my ND filter on and the propeller (which you could see going round before the ND filter was on) disapeered. I was using my XL1s. I have no idea why that happened....maybe the freaquency of that particular propeller or may be a common thing with the ND filter on but whatever the reason I'm going back up and i'm keeping the ND filter on. Obviously your lipstick camera won't have an ND filter but maybe you could cut an ND filter to fit and give that a go it may do the same you never know. Andy Gene Timothy March 28th, 2006, 05:54 PM I was on your website looking at the trailers page and was unable to download the trailer,. is it still up?? Thanks Jim Michael March 28th, 2006, 07:29 PM I was up in a light aircraft getting some shots for a film and when I looked at the footage i noticed something strange....as the pilot banked round into the sun I put my ND filter on and the propeller (which you could see going round before the ND filter was on) disapeered. Could also be lit vs. backlit blades on the prop. Andy Graham March 28th, 2006, 07:53 PM yup I was shooting 25 fps so my shutter was always 1/50 Andy. Jeremy Hughes March 29th, 2006, 01:35 PM If youre good at AE, then you're in good shape. I think the animation looks fine. Just start setting up those render passes on separate renders. You throw those HDR files in there for your light sources and you are going to be able to pull it off pretty well I think. Theres a lot of links on the net about rendering out passes and layers... this project here had a two day turn around here so I didnt have time to make it real nice and the model was put together real fast. I rendered with HDR and pushed out several passes so I could control the specular, ambient, etc. http://www.jeremyhughes77.com/_qt/tabletSound_9-25b.mov so I know you could pull it off too ;) ...plus if you render out HDR passes as well, AE can work with those now too so you would have even more control! David Delaney March 29th, 2006, 08:40 PM We just put up a new episode for www.bionicbuddha.com aka (www.v5tv.com) on reverse lyrics in songs. We have another three episodes in the can for Rewired and Distortions, just trying to find time to edit them. We have also put some behind the scenes shots on our blog if you want to check it out. Feedback always welcome. Clayton Woodley March 29th, 2006, 11:34 PM Two teasers, Edited pretty quickly, for a skate video I'm producing http://www.filelodge.com/files/room14/362682/Panache-Teaser.mp4 http://www.filelodge.com/files/room14/362682/WinstonTrailer.mp4 John Holland March 30th, 2006, 10:09 PM www.aggieblvd.net/Concert.wmv Quick little experiment that turned out cool. I had an assignment for my video class where I had to use the cropping tool, so I came up with this! Enjoy! P.S. Yes, that's me playing. Tom Bolia March 30th, 2006, 11:01 PM Nice experiment. How many cameras did you actually use? Or did you simply change angles each time, and play the same piece each time? It appears that you had at least two cameras, and the close-ups could have simply been synched? John Holland March 30th, 2006, 11:03 PM Two cameras. A DVX100B and a JVC cam. I thought about just synching but I had little time to setup since the room was only free for about 30 minutes so I grabbed the extra camera and knocked it out in about 15 minutes. Now I just need to find a professional studio with a piano and time so I can really spruce it up. Brian Andrews March 31st, 2006, 06:41 PM Here is a link to the trailer for my 25 minute short film "Can You Hear Me Now?" This is my first movie so be gentle, but comments are apprieciated. http://web.mac.com/brian.andrews29/iWeb/CentralPlace%20Productions/9D1DB18A-5D71-4DB2-B73F-839235EFECCE.html David Chapman March 31st, 2006, 07:21 PM First off— It looks like it might be pretty funny. The female seems believable as a character. As for the "trailer"— It doesn't really start or stop. It just appears and then vanishes. You might want to check out the movie trailer section on apple.com (www.apple.com/trailers) to see a reference. Usually they tell part of the plot to get the viewer interested in the story. You might even throw in some text to help the viewer (ie: "An addiction" then "leads to an intervention") Usually the "highlight text" is over a black background. You might want to add some music too. Just as long as it doesn't overpower the actor's voices. Final touches: the title, directed by info, a green preview slide at the beginning, final credits at the end showing the website and/or release date or just "coming soon." :-/ hope that wasn't too harsh? Good luck, fellow movie-making bud! Brian Andrews March 31st, 2006, 08:05 PM James, Thank you so much for the awesome feedback! You were not harsh at all (trust me I've gotten slammed for this trailer) and all of your points are dead on. Thanks again for taking the time. I really apprieciate it. David Chapman March 31st, 2006, 08:07 PM Hey, no problem. I actually did laugh when the guy started combing his hair. He reminds me of that guy that works at the Sprint store. If you have been in any Sprint store in the US, you've seen him. Brian Andrews March 31st, 2006, 09:57 PM Hey, no problem. I actually did laugh when the guy started combing his hair. He reminds me of that guy that works at the Sprint store. If you have been in any Sprint store in the US, you've seen him. You are dead on. In the script he was "Radio Shack Geek"...he is the "drug" dealer. Shouldn't be hard to figure out the addiction now. David Chapman April 1st, 2006, 10:43 PM Dude! I was going to say Radio Shack, but the dude I'm thinking of moved from Radio Shack to Sprint. John Mobley April 2nd, 2006, 07:41 AM hey guys i just read and posted in the excellent thread' "rodriguez success yet to be duplicated" and wanted to add something in my own thread.I just wanted people especially amateur filmmakers to not lose heart about lack of filmmakers breaking through, especially digital, uh filmmakers, filmmakers may not be the best word for us but whatever. Look at the success of the film "tarnation", 125 $ budget and awards galore, now the film is even even at blockbuster. go to ifilm and look at success stories ,atomfilms, or google "bowie chick and www.youtube.com and read about this girls bowiechicks story. She made some afterschool videos using a webcam and now the webcam maker has a major deal in the works with her, you wouldnt believe how commonplace making videos for myspace.com and stuff like that is now among young people.its happening guys, the digital decade is here, just hang in there and keep the faith. cheers ,john Emre Safak April 2nd, 2006, 10:09 AM I'm looking at her page right now (youtube (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=bowiechick)) and I see no "Tarnation". |
