View Full Version : DVC4 Sign Up Thread
Dylan Couper November 22nd, 2005, 03:22 PM Reply to this thread to sign up for DVC4!
You don't need to email me directly for this challenge.
REMEMBER: DVC4 IS A CHARITY FUND RAISING EVENT. ALL DONATIONS GO TO THE CHARITY OF THE WINNER'S CHOICE.
To make a donation, please Paypal to livingart@shaw.ca where I will pool all the money and then send a check to the charity of choice.
Entry is free, of course, donations are only if you feel guilted into it by the millions of underprivaliged kids in North America, or the hundreds of millions of starving around the world, or the homeless, or sick, or those who don't have the luxury of being able to afford this great hobby/business that we do.... Enough guilt yet? :)
Dylan Couper November 22nd, 2005, 03:23 PM I'm the first one to (officialy) sign up!
My donation is on my way to my Paypal account. :)
Mike Teutsch November 22nd, 2005, 04:05 PM I'm in, and hope I can get something made this time!. No shame no gain, or something like that!
Mike Teutsch
Josh Johnson November 22nd, 2005, 08:40 PM I'm in... money on the way soon... yay...
Richard Zlamany November 23rd, 2005, 02:35 AM I am in. I can't wait to view everybody's work and create my own.
Good luck to all. :)
Riley Harmon November 23rd, 2005, 02:55 AM Im in, ill send donation soon, im signing up but it really just depends on school work load if i can make something, either way, i plan on shipping off 10 bucks
Andrew Hood November 23rd, 2005, 04:42 AM My first DVC, and (maybe) hopefully my worst ;-) The next entry may be respectable.
I only got my PD150 8 days ago, another week to learn how to tweak it for optimum results. Maybe I can use my TRV18E to shoot the making of video, to capture the nightmare behind the (nightmare of a) final movie/short thing. Good way to learn on the run anyway, it will test things out for sure. If only my ME66, and 2 giant squids arrive before then I might have sound covered.
So count me in, I'll just have to con some other people locally into it now.
Sean McHenry November 23rd, 2005, 07:25 AM Dude, you know I'm in.
All in.
In for a Penny, in for a Pound.
Both feet in.
Really, really in.
Way in.
I'm so in, all I can see is more in-ness.
Count me in.
OK, you got it. Can you deal with american cash? I'm still trying to get you some dough. Personal check in American? I think your bank should be able to convert it.
Check will be on the way in a day or so. Same amount as last time.
Andrew has Giant Squids on the way...man, another horror fan I think... : p
Sean
Craig Bellaire November 23rd, 2005, 07:58 AM My first try...Thought I'd either do it now our just let my equipment sit and I'd have to cry for not using it...
Your not walking on water unless both feet are out of the boat...
I'm in...
Michael Gibbons November 23rd, 2005, 12:27 PM Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
in.
Benjamin Durin November 24th, 2005, 03:51 AM I'm in with two friends.
Dylan, I will send you NT$10 by mail, is it alright ? (ok, you don't need to answer that)
Tyler Baptist November 24th, 2005, 12:15 PM I'm in. I'll try and send a donation from my next paycheck.
Jeff Tyler November 24th, 2005, 03:01 PM Im in. I'll be sending a donation as soon as I am able to.
Mark Utley November 25th, 2005, 03:07 PM I'm definitely in. This'll be the first film competition I enter.
Is it okay for me to send cash through the mail or is that too risky?
Daniel Kohl November 25th, 2005, 05:58 PM Count me in.
Mike Teutsch November 25th, 2005, 06:22 PM Dylan,
Sign-up is a little slow and that may be for many reasons, holidays and all. Since this is for charity anyway, why not suspend the wall-of-shame penalty for this contest. If you wish to make a donation, feel free to do so without penalty! Turn in a film or not, but donate.
After all, this challenge is to raise money for a good cause! You are not going to draw those looking for big prizes.
Just an Idea!!!!!
Mike
Dylan Couper November 25th, 2005, 10:09 PM I meant to add that a few days ago, yes, Wall Of Shame is suspended for this event!
Robert Martens November 25th, 2005, 10:24 PM Well, I'm in, maybe I'll get something done this time. At least I don't have to feel bad if I don't, though; "It's for a good cause." :)
Sean McHenry November 26th, 2005, 01:05 AM OK, new twist for me. I have had a torn shoulder, torn glenoid labrum, for a few months. It's getting quite difficult to pull off a T-shirt at the end of the day, etc. I will likely be having an "outpatient" surgical procedure on Dec 7th on my right shoulder. I hope to have something in the can by then or it's going to be interesting.
For you Canadians, an outpatient procedure here means you walk in and later that day, they pour you into a wheel barrow and hopefully a friend can drive you home. They tell me I'll be out for about 2 hours.
Maybe the anasthetic will give me a few editing ideas.
Just wanted to say one way or another, I will be posting something.
Sean
Daniel Kohl November 26th, 2005, 04:01 AM What! no Wall Of Shame!
I'm out - that is the symbol of the DV Challenge as far as I'm concerned - charity this way or that - even the most charitable people are not immune to shame.
Just kidding about being out - but if I can't get something done, I'm going to hang myself on my own personal wall of shame.
When is the "go" date? I've been out of it lately because of work.
Ed Smith November 26th, 2005, 06:50 AM Sign me up scotty!!!
uh yeah i'll give it a go this time round...
Mike Teutsch November 26th, 2005, 09:52 AM Maybe the anasthetic will give me a few editing ideas.
Sean
Damn, all I have is beer, you may be cheating!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Mike
Dick Mays November 26th, 2005, 11:58 AM I'm in! But I NEED the Wall of Shame, to motivate me to finish!
It being the holidays, charity event and all, perhaps the Wall
will be self administered this time...
Dylan Couper November 27th, 2005, 10:32 AM Ok Dick, I'll put you on my own personal wall of shame! :)
For the people who want to mail cash, cash through the mail is probably safe, but I really suggest trying to find someone with a Paypal account to borrow, and tuck that cash into a local charity donation box.
Lorinda Norton November 27th, 2005, 02:48 PM Here we go again! :)
We've had enough of a break, Dylan, that it feels like the first time--kind of scary even! But it'll be great fun, as usual.
And Ed Smith...what a nice surprise! It will be cool for us to get to watch (and judge!) YOUR movie instead of the other way around. Have fun!!
Mike Teutsch November 27th, 2005, 02:54 PM Way to go Lorinda! Keeps the consecutive streak going!
Just Mike
Mekhael Trepanier November 27th, 2005, 08:20 PM does putting my name down here and saying in...

when do we start shooting and so on?
sorry for the dumb questions... i tryed reading some threads but got lost on the way...
Adam Keen November 27th, 2005, 09:26 PM Alright, I'm in.
Lorinda Norton November 27th, 2005, 10:30 PM Hi Mekhael,
I’m sure that after all this time the rules have become a little muddled, all right.
Yes, by signing up here you are “in” the challenge. It begins Dec. 1. Dylan has given us more time on this challenge to have a three minute (four if you really need it) movie posted on a Web page and the link emailed to him by Dec. 11. That’s right; ten days to shoot, edit, and post your movie. Not bad, eh? You'll e-mail the link to your movie to www.thedvchallenge.com
He will post the theme of this challenge on Dec. 1 at an hour of his choosing. It varies, depending upon his mood and how busy he is. Come to think of it, lots of things vary, depending upon Dylan’s mood. ;)
This challenge is more easy-going than some, which is part of the reason I like it so much. Your movie is judged by how well it fits the theme, plus production value. This one, in particular, will be different because the participants are the judges!
To-date, the themes have run from “Trapped,” to “Secrets” and then “Cameras.” Dylan promises that this challenge will be a Christmas/holiday theme. But knowing him, don’t expect angels or snowflakes…
So, did I get it about right, guys? :)
Mike Teutsch November 28th, 2005, 01:46 AM Lorinda,
I'm sure you are about 95% right at least! The rest is up to Dylan and his Scotch supply, ah, if I remember it right! Unsure until the end and looking forward to it!
Come on everyone, join-up now and avoid the rush! Sign-up now and be among the most generous.
It is the time of the season to be generous, please do so.
All donations will go to a worthy charity, of the winners choice!
All penalties have been suspend for this constest, no wall-of-shame for this one, so all can apply!
Sign-up now
Sincerely,
Mike
Fredrik-Larsson November 28th, 2005, 02:30 AM I am in and just sent some money using Paypal. Hope you receive them properly.
Dylan Couper November 28th, 2005, 11:19 AM So, did I get it about right, guys? :)
Perfect, thanks Lorinda!
Sean McHenry November 28th, 2005, 11:38 AM Surgery postponed. I got a reprieve from the Govenor and now have through Thursday the 8th to get something in. The sad part is I loose a Friday to surgery. I hate loosing Fridays to anything not of my choosing.
Anyway, I'm still in.
Sean
Ed Smith November 28th, 2005, 12:39 PM ...
And Ed Smith...what a nice surprise! It will be cool for us to get to watch (and judge!) YOUR movie instead of the other way around. Have fun!!
Yeah,
Dylan twisted my arm. Plus I would have been unable to judge this time round, being that I am going on holiday on the 12th...
It'll be fun.
Cheers,
Fred Finn November 28th, 2005, 08:58 PM Err I signed up in the wrong thread originally...sorry. But yeah count me in. I've got new territory to use.

Sean McHenry November 30th, 2005, 11:04 PM Hey, it's 12:03am on Dec 1st... waiting for the magic "word"...
Actually, going to bed. See you all in the morning. May the best video win.
Sean
Nick Hiltgen December 1st, 2005, 01:18 AM Last minute sign up, count me in, I mean come on there's no wall of shame right?
Jason Varner December 1st, 2005, 03:54 AM It's 2 in the morning and I don't think I'll be able to sleep unless I accept the DV Challenge. I look forward to working with/against you all again.
Sean McHenry December 1st, 2005, 07:16 AM Since the official topic hasn't been released yet, I'm going to ask that I be allowed to enter my daughter, Kate. She has been interested since the last contest and I have some spare gear she will be borrowing to do this. If the contest gods will allow, please note I am entering, at her request, Kate McHenry as a participant.
I know the site says to sign up before the 1st so if we missed it, she'll understand. She just moved and has no internet access yet, hence me signing her up late.
Thanks folks.
Waiting for "the word".
Sean McHenry
Mitchell Stookey December 1st, 2005, 07:53 AM I'm in. And I'm totally late. If there wasn't an extra weekend this would be impossible for me, but since there is, let's make this Christmas season more stressful!
Michael Gibbons December 1st, 2005, 10:10 AM May the best video win.
Sean
I prefer that I win, but have it your way.
Jimmy Bustos December 1st, 2005, 10:15 AM Oops I must have signed up at a different thread yesterday. Anyways I would like to join the contest, It sounds fun.
Jonathan Jones December 1st, 2005, 01:01 PM Well, I'm guilted into it. I think I got in just under the wire because I see the theme is not yet posted. I wasn't going to sign up this time around, because I don't have the time or the $....but this forum and the DVC's have done wonders for my knowledge base and helping my own business, I need to give up a little kickback.
My wife will be a little P.O'd, but that is okay, I just spent a few hours for her by running Photoshop pranks to aide her and her office buddies who 'kidnapped' a little office statue for a prank. I photoshopped him traveling all over the world and sent anonymous photos to the office employees to get them rolling....so I can allow myself a little time for this challenge....very little...so that will be by goal.
Lucky for me there is no wall of shame this time around, and since a major part of my business is to support charities, I'm good to go.
My plan...for DVC1 , my goal was just to make an entry with some type of depth (it was too deep)
DVC 2, I worked on how to frame a good shot
DVC3, how much story content can I squeeze into the time limit
This time around, I will see what I can do on a budget of time and funds. I will try to use the cheapest stuff I have around the house, and no more than 3 hours for the whole thing - write, shoot, and edit.
I expect it to be a major bomb, but my goal is to do something with almost nothing.
So far...I'm kinda in.
-Jon
Craig Bellaire December 1st, 2005, 05:43 PM Do We Have A Topic yet? 6:45pm EST... This is almost fun just waiting.... hhhmmm
