I am trying to shoot with the new JVC camera and whenever I try to playback my footage (in camera through the viewfinder) it doesn't work. I am using a Sony HD MiniDV tape. It shows I'm recording in HDV-HD24P but when I playback in camera it says DV-60 and gives me a blank gray screen in the viewfinder. The only thing I can surmise from rummaging through the manual is that Im recording in LP (which cannot be played back in camera)--but, if that's the case, Im not sure how to change the setting. Can anyone help?

Thank you,
Dan

It is impossible to record HDV in LP - so that's not the problem.

Go into the VIDEO FORMAT menu and make sure that PB TAPE is set to AUTO, not DV.

If that doesn't work, then you may have clogged your heads with the Sony tape. Try a JVC head cleaner and JVC or Panasonic tape stock.

That worked.

That worked.
What worked? Settings change or cleaning clogged heads?

Just on the tape issue. I dont know why but the camera does not seem to like the Sony HD tapes (you know the massively over priced ones) and I stopped using them. It doesnt seem to mind the Panasonic Master grade tapes.

Same here. Panasonic MQ have been my preferred tape since it was available and I have had excellent results: not a single drop-out.

I'm a long time user of Panasonic MQs so am happy to hear I can continue to use them when I go HDV.
