i might be way off track.. but: im too tightly budgeted this month to afford to buy the 3x WA canon lens for the xl1s. With the use of a 35mm adapter what would be the closest equivelent in a 35mm lense to the 3x?

Andrew,

I don't think you will find a 35mm equivelant. The 3x lens is 3.4mm-10.2mm, the equivelant "LOOK" of 24-72mm in 35mm format. But attaching a 35mm format LENS to the body, is subject to a multiplication factor of 7.2x. Thus, putting a 20mm lens on the XL body will yield a 144mm look... a 'telephoto' if you will.

i mean if using a 35mm ground glass adapter. (like the letus).. not just the body -> to lens

Then, a lens (or lenses) in the 24-75 mm is what you are looking for.

Oh, right... Then the comparable image size placed on the ground glass would be directly related to the lens. Hence, as I mentioned and Jean-Phillipe pointed out, you will need lenses in the 24 - 75mm range.
