Check this out if you've had problems with the IBM Deskstar/Travelstar http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5781

Out of principle, I would not join a class action suit of that sort---The lawyers are killing us and they will be the one's to profit on this suit----IBM took care of my failed deskstar, no questions asked.

Not everyone has been so fortunate. I know of several former Deskstar users that have not been able to receive replacements.

The way to take on a large corporation is to head directly to the top.

Send a letter to the President (by name). Outline the problem and the deep disappointment you have in his/her company as a result of your unresolved problem. Include any documentation you may have. Also a chronology of what steps you have take to get the problem resolved and any (good or bad) response from the division in question.

I've done this with HP (Wrote Bill Hewlett), Tektronix and several other large companies. Normally I get a telephone call within days from the division manager with which I have the problem.

It won't always work but it has for me.

I agree with you Mike. I have done this several times. Worked well for me too.
As long as your civil and stick to the facts.

On the otherhand a class action suit also has it's place.
Both send different but important messages.

Everyone hates lawyers until they need one. :-)

The key is not to need one
