When I create things in Photoshop to import into Final Cut for an SD 16:9 project, I use the Photoshop preset "NTSC DV Widescreen, 720 x 480 (with guides)". It creates a document that is:

- 720 pixels x 480 pixels
- 72dpi
- RGB color mode
- 1.2 Pixel Aspect Ratio (D1/DV NTSC Widescreen)

I reccomend you upgrade the project to 1080p24/30 if you plan to utilize the illustrations to make an animation. You'll get near original drawing quality editing.

Do you mean that PS actually has a preset called NTSC DV Widescreen. The reaon I am ask is because I was reading about and using those same settings (with the exception of the 1.2 pixel aspec ration) for projects in 4:3 and didn't have any problems.

Yes, I do mean that PS actually has a preset called NTSC DV Widescreen. It's exactly as I posted. Just go to FILE --> NEW and in the dialog box that appears, choose NTSC DV Widescreen, 720 x 480 (with guides) from the Presets pop up box.
