Hi there,

I went to circuit city to look at firewire cards & video editing software and they had the pyro platinum box which says it has the full version of premiere 6.5. & ulead dvd workshop SE. for:

$299

Then i went to compusa and they had adobe premiere 6.5 in a box by itself for:

$599.

I don't understand the adobe pricing scheme at all. Is there a catch or do they not want to sell premiere for $599?

(thanks for clicking on my thread)

Could it be you were looking at either an expensive UPGRADE at circuit city (Usually about $170), or an inexpensive ADOBE Media Pack at COMP USA? The packaging is similar.

the staff member at compusa wan't sure why it would be 300 dollars less but they did also suggest it might be an upgrade over at circuit city

I did find the same package on the internet at:
http://www.firewire-1394.com/pyro-platinum-dv.htm

which is even less. and it does say it is a full version of 6.5

i'm still confused, has anyone purchased this?

There's really nothing surprising here--Premiere makes bundling deals with lots of hardware manufacturers. It's one of the ways they maintain their popularity in the face of competition from Ulead, Sonic Foundry, etc.

I would guess that most of the legit copies of Premiere out there are from bundles, that comparatively very few Premiere owners bought the software standalone for the commercial retail price.

You should also be able to get a sealed, new-in-box Premiere 6.5 from eBay for roughly $200.
