I figure it'll probably just be until FCP6 is out. Because to them there would be no point in individually mass producing each app in a universal binary when the universal binary of FCP Sudio is just tide people over until FCP 6 drops 1-2 months after that anyways.

Found this on the Apple Store website:

"Universal applications are designed to run flawlessly on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers. Universal versions of Final Cut Studio, Logic Pro, and Logic Express will be available by March 31, 2006.

If you own a current PowerPC version of one of these products, you're eligible for a low-cost "crossgrade" to the Universal version when it becomes available:

Application Price
Final Cut Studio 1.0 $49
Logic Pro 7.1 $49
Logic Express 7.1 $29
The PowerPC versions of these applications are currently not supported to run on Intel-based Macintosh computers with Rosetta.

Attention Aperture users
A Universal version of Aperture, which will run natively on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Mac computers, will be available before the end of March 2006. New and existing owners of Aperture will be able to crossgrade to the Universal version at no additional charge via Software Update.

Special offer: Final Cut Studio Upgrades
After January 10, 2006, the individual applications in Final Cut Studio will only be available as part of the suite. To make it easy for our customers to make the move to Final Cut Studio, we're offering amazing deals to current owners of Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Production Suite. When you take advantage of this offer, you'll get the Universal version of Final Cut Studio when it becomes available.

Application Price
Final Cut Pro 5 $99
DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, or Soundtrack Pro $199
Final Cut Pro 4.X/HD or Production Suite $199
Final Cut Pro 1/2/3 $699
How to get these deals
After February 1, 2006, visit Apple.com again for complete details on this program, including an order form. Universal application versions of these applications are expected by March 31, 2006."

Wow. Glad I didn't buy the Soundtrack Pro update last month.

You're right.

Actually we've been discussing this for almost two weeks here ;-)

They say the universal binary of FCP 5 won't ship until March 31. I'd think that means we won't see FCP 6 for awhile, but of course nobody really knows what Apple might be up to. It certainly would be strange for them to ship the universal FCP 5 and then replace it with FCP 6 three weeks later at NAB like some people are speculating...

Doh! Toche! :)
(Gotta know that a still-a-PC-user wouldn't have the scoop on this. :p )

BTW: Do you know if there's a Philly area user's group for FCP?
