I wonder which 35mm adapter can be used with XL-H1 (I am thinking of M2, SG35 or similar adapters).

I am more interested in hands-on experience, less in theories. Can't afford spending hundreds of dollars just to find someone else's thoughts were actually wrong.

Din anyone used any 35mm adapter with Canon XL-H1?

Best regards,

Catalin

I think almost all of them, but not sure.
If you can use them with the XL2, you should be able to use them with the XL-H1 too, no?
Not sure of this, but I wouldn't know why not.

If you don't want theories, you should go rent the P+S Technik mini35:

Regarding cheaper alternatives -> http://www.cinemek.com and http://www.redrockmicro.com Both have been used on the XL2, so it'll work on the XL-H1.

I have h1 and mini35. if you go to: http://homepage.mac.com/sarke/FileSharing3.html you can download some of the clips that I shot with mini35.

also if you read this thread -->> http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=57376&page=3 you can read about problems that might occure with it.

Basicly, my bottom line is, that you can perfectly use mini35 with h1, but need a lot of practice to avoid graind issues there.

Levan, thanks for your clips and posts. They've helped me a lot - basically getting me to lean towards the HVX200. But I'm still a huge fan of the XL-H1 and can see using it in the future. Can you briefly post what you'd suggest for minimizing grain and Mpeg2 artifacts when using the mini35?

Can anyone tell me basically what the 35mm adapter does?

Oooh boy, that's a can of worms. This is a FAQ specifically for the G35, but answers a lot of questions. Essentially a 35mm adapter lets you use 35mm lenses to achieve the much sought after depth of field characteristics of 35mm film.

Well, I will soon open the first HD facility in Egypt - actually the first in the Arab markets. It will be *me* the one renting to others.

I don't have enough money to buy that expensive P+S mini35 adapter, nor will my market have the money to pay the according rental fees.

So I have to find a cheaper alternative.

That's what I thought. ;) That's why I mentioned the other two.

Here's my list of where to look:

Catalin,

you can use either one. Both of them work on XL-H1. Question is, how is the quality.

Huh? How did 35mm adapters make you come to that conclusion? What does the HVX200 do for you in that regard that the H1 doesn't?

No MPEG2 artifacts with HVX.

Meh. I haven't seen one MPEG artificat with the H1 yet. And I've been doing a lot of crazy hand-held work and every frame has held up.
