View Full Version : "Filming," "Taping," now ... ?
Hans Damkoehler February 8th, 2006, 03:41 AM When I first started out as a PA I made the major faux pas of asking where we would be "filming" that day. The director turned to me as he packed up his Betacam and said, "Taping ... we're not using film. We're taping." That was the last time I made that mistake.
So ... what are we doing now?
"Solid-state storaging?"
Nah.
"P2ing"
That just sounds wrong.
I haven't seen this addressed elsewhere and I'm probably out of the loop ... and, I ask the question rather tongue-in-cheek, but, really ...
... what ARE we doing now?

but I'm a naturalist, I will always say filming no matter the technicality, in essence, it is the art of film that has created the way we do things. We still "cut" we still "Edit" we still record sound, we also still say action in Narrative shoots and in the end, we still call it a film, not a tap, or a recording, or a DVD presentation, or a projection... We call it a film.
I say Filming is correct as anything.

You may not want to mention shooting in the same sentance as school, post office, any government office, or bank.
