Pete Bauer February 25th, 2006, 09:16 PM Real stinking cute. Yes, indeed. Robert M Wright February 25th, 2006, 10:00 PM I'm sure Mr. Dunn is an honest, standup guy. Just out of curiousity, I plugged "Michael Dunn" into the search at the www.emmys.tv website. Well, I guess I just wasn't really all that surprised by the results, but I'm sure there's no scam attempt going on here. Chris Hurd February 25th, 2006, 10:07 PM I'm sure of that as well, and it's still completely irrelevant. Gary Siu February 26th, 2006, 06:52 AM Group, I too was looking for the classified's. While this site host SO much valuable information, and is an endless site for chat sessions, (everyone whom I've chatted with being great!), I find it "Incomplete" without the classifieds. (I'm always looking for a great deal, and enjoy selling my equipment to members - passing on the great deal) Maybe a way to verified a legit sale from a member??? Most of us also sell on ebay, so why can't we use our user ID as verification? (Check mine - "siucoharley", I'm one of the honest ones!) Those "scammers" don't usually last here or on ebay. Also, anyone buying internet goods (especially if it's of higher $$$) should always talk to the person via telephone (remember those?? haha) And finally use paypal as a semi-secure method of payment. Use a little common sense, "if it sounds too good to be true, somethings wrong" and when a sale is all said and done between two DV info members, post feedback to let others know, "Hey BOTH these members are solid and trustworthy. (Of course being a long-time'er goes a long way) Just like to try and come up with a solution as "I miss the Classifieds Chris"......... :( Andrew Todd February 26th, 2006, 07:18 AM Group, I too was looking for the classified's. Those scammeras do last on there.. the only people getting banned are people with stolen accounts.. like my old one.. still not allowed to use it yet because it was stolen. ebay doesnt push for prosecution of anyone... chris shouldnt have to worry about it... but i do think it would be cool to let everyone VIEW that forum and be able to reply through email if they're interested in buying an item. ive only been here since october... take a real interest in the site and you shouldnt have any problem getting your posts up. Robert M Wright February 26th, 2006, 06:04 PM It's kinda cool here in Minnesnowta too. You can tell just by the sheer number of posts I've written, that I haven't walked out the door much recently. Actually, I haven't been further than the local grocery (a few blocks away), since the frigid, arctic blast blew in a little over a week ago. Jay Kavi February 27th, 2006, 02:10 AM Going back a few pages, i have some of the same sentiment as Mike and Tyler. I've been lurking around and occasionaly posting. most of the discussions i dont reply to because I either dont feel i have the knowlege to really discuss the topic or my comment has already been posted by someone else. So the new classified rules do seem unfair, but i understand why they are here, so i guess ya'll should expect a lot of posts from me. Chris Hurd February 27th, 2006, 08:42 AM Once again... you don't need a high post count for access to the classifieds. I just checked your account, Jay, and it shows that you can get to that forum. If you're not seeing it for some reason, shoot me an email. Christopher Leclair February 27th, 2006, 10:29 AM Just out of curiousity what does it take to qualify? For what I'm gathering it has to do probably with the lenght of time you've been a member? How long is that, a year, 2 years more, less? Michael Dunn February 27th, 2006, 10:41 AM To Mr. Robert Wright, Here is a little background. My father Cal Dunn was originally an artist and an art director working in the advertising business. He learned the motion picture business during WW II. My dad worked as a civilain for the Signal Corps. He produced and directed movies and slide films for the Navy and Army Air Corps. Many of the programs he worked on were top secret, such as Radar and new weapons systems. In 1947 he started his own production company in Chicago, Cal Dunn Studios. I was born in 1944 and this is the business I grew up in. From the summer of 8th grade (1958) I worked for my father. I learned all facets of the business from grip work to running an Oxberry animation stand. I earned a Marketing degree from the University of Arizona (1968); got married in 1969 and returned to Chicago where I worked for my fathers company. I produced and directed all kinds of slide films, motion pictures, and multi-image presentations. In the multi-image area I was particularly proud of the program I produced for Opryland USA. It was a 25 minute program on the History of the Grand Old Opry. It ran year round in a special theatre adjacent to the new Opry House at Opryland. I photographed and shot motion pictures of the very last Opry performance at the Ryman Auditorium on Friday night and the first performance at the new Opry House. This show was attended by a VIP guest list that included (then President) Richard Nixon. My Emmys as director were won in the Chicago chapter of the organization. My programs were "Chicago Passport to the World" The premise of the program was.... that because Chicago has such a diverse population it is possible to visit cultures from around the world. We did just that by filming cultural events, museums, food festivals, and special events in the various ethnic neighborhoods throughout Chicago. The program won three Emmy awards. Emmy for Director (myself); also Emmys for Cinematography (Charles Peich), and Editing (Fred Steim). The program was paid for by Talman Home Federal Savings and aired on NBC Chicago. The program was subsequentially put into distrbution in the US and copies were traveled by the US State Department throughout the world. "Made in Chicago". We covered 7 Chicago companies that each produced products that required high degree of skill in manufacturing and that in many cases preserved "old world" skill. Stained glass, Deerdorf camers, a custom book binging company that was 135 years and 4 generations in Chicago, CD Peacock Jewerly for custom made jewelry. CD Peacock was the oldest business in the city of Chicago. There were two Emmys won buy the program. I won an Emmy as Director, and an Emmy for Cinematography (Charles Peich). The program was paid for by Talman Home Federal Savings and it aired on NBC Chicago. "Make a Splash, Volunteer". The program highlighted unique volunteers in the city of Chicago. A free medical clinic operating in a church on the south side. Divers feeding the fish in the big tank at the Shedd Aquarium, a retired gentlman who took on the persona of Frank Lloyd Wright (wardrobe and all) and took people on tour of the FLW houses in Oak Park, IL I won an Emmy as director, also an Emmy for Sophia Maass as Producer. The program was paid for by the Junior League of Chicago and Evanston, Illinois The program aired on WTTW (PBS) Chicago. All three programs were shot on film, (remember that). Make a Splash was shot on film and was posted in video I have two of the programs on VHS and if you would like to view them I would be more than happy to loan you a copy. I also have copies of my demo reel. I worked with my father until his retirement in 1986. We split the company (he kept one client) and I took the balance. From 1986 to 1998 I specialized in medical and pharmaceutical video programs. My clients included Baxter Healthcare, Abbott, MSD, Boots Pharmaceuticals and others. I also spent most of those years photographing Indy Car Racing. For 11 years my client was Pennzoil. I photographed Rick Mears with Penske Racing and then the Pennzoil money went to Jim Hall Racing. Those year were spent photographing John Andretti, Teo Fabi and Gil de Ferran. I traveled to every race track that the series raced on in the US. I did that until the CART, IRL split in 1995. By 1998 I became dissenchanted with video production and turned my full time attention to still photography. I specialize in shooting beautiful models. I shoot all over the US and several tropical locations. I travel regularly to Costa Rica, the Mexican Riveria and the Caribbean. I am published by a half dozen magazine companies in the United States and I am represented intenationally by the Photorama agency in The Netherlands. I publish under the pseudonym of James Hamilton. You can see samples of my work on my web site www.jamesgirls.com I am beginning to shoot video again at the request of some of my magazine clients who wish to market video. The DV format and computer based editing is the norm for inexpensive production and there are things I need to acquaint myself with to accomplish this task. Hence my recent joining of this form. My trusty Sony VX 1000 died from massive corosion damage. (All those trips to salt water did it in). Sony made me a deal to get into a new camera and I took them up on it. I have all the accessories for the VX 1000 here with me and I posted them in the classified section at a nominal price figuring that someone could use them. 3 days later I can't even see the section. I understand why the owners or moderators have decided to lock out new members but it is still my right to object to it. The Acoustic Guitar Forum was the Taylor Guitar Forum until Bob Taylor got tired of mis-information on his guitars being presented as fact and..... Guitar Center (a high volume retailer of Taylor Guitars....that takes a beating from the forum members for their almost total lack of care for high end acoustic guitars) complained to Bob Taylor. Bob and Kurt Lustig own the company and they wanted their name off the forum. So the Taylor Guitar Forum became the AGF! When I am not working I enjoy Guitar playing. I own 4 Taylor's and 2 Yairi's. You can find me on the acoustic guitar forum as mdunn. I also like 60's muscle cars. I have two, a 1965 GT 350 Shelby Mustang that I purchased from a friend in 1967. I believe I am longest continuous owner of a 1965 GT 350. I also have a 1969 Boss 302 Mustang that I have owned twice. New and then re-purchased in 1987 as rolling junk. It is now restored. And, motorcycles. Between my wife and myself we own 8. My current lust is 1985 and 86 Yamaha FZ 750's. I own 4. One purchased new and the rest acquired along the way. The most recent one is an 86 with 203 miles on it. Mild crash damage got it parked. I found it on E-Bay. It will be running next summer. I will turn 62 years old in a month. The only thing I have done to earn a living since I got out of the Army and got married in 1969; is motion picture production, video production or professional still photography. While I may be a New Boot on this forum I am an old pro in this industry. I hope this brief description satisfies your curiosity as to who I am and what my credentials are in the production business and life in general. Richard Alvarez February 27th, 2006, 11:55 AM I think the thing to keep in mind, is that this site is not an 'auction site'. It's a discussion forum. The fact that Chris has included a sales area, is a nice perk, that can easily be removed. Sales sites and auction sites often charge a fee or commision for either membership or sale. Chris' 'charge' for utilising the sales forum, is a bit of time on the board. Seems pretty cheap. But then again, he could just take it away, and have one less headache. I would miss it, but I wouldn't blame him. (Yes, I've purchased from members of the forum.) (And welcome aboard Michael, it's good to have you around.) Tony Cook February 27th, 2006, 01:41 PM Speaking as a newbie, I would like to be able to buy gear. Eventually (after I've had an opportunity to use my gear for a while) I might want to sell, but for now it would be nice just to see what's out there. I would feel comfortable sending cash before shipment from long-time members if that's what it would take. It would be benefitial to those who want to sell because there would be more people looking at your ad. Being new, I have a laundry list of gear that I'm looking for, and would love to pay less for it. I am a big proponent of the "if you have nothing to say keep quite" rule. Trust me, if you want to avoid alot of useless chit chat and anoying questions you might reconsider the 100 post rule. (I think my post count is up to 3 now) Chris Hurd February 27th, 2006, 05:10 PM Just out of curiousity what does it take to qualify? For what I'm gathering it has to do probably with the lenght of time you've been a member? How long is that, a year, 2 years more, less?Yes as I've stated before, it's length of time as a member. But not two years... more like two months. Christopher Leclair February 27th, 2006, 06:08 PM Thanks, sounds reasonable. Sorry for all the trouble you are getting over this! It's the bad apples..... Jack D. Hubbard February 28th, 2006, 12:46 AM Hi Chris; You sure are taking a lot of heat on this issue. Time for us all to focus: It is a great forum. What makes it special for me is the ability to exchange information, and to get help, quick. Classifieds are fine, but like Mastercard, exchanging ideas is priceless. You guys have done a great job; my hat is off to you. Jack Mick Isdes February 28th, 2006, 03:33 AM Whatever you guys choose I have had nothing but positive transactions here not including the wealth of information. Thanks DVinfo! Dino Santoro February 28th, 2006, 07:21 AM Hi Chris; You sure are taking a lot of heat on this issue. Time for us all to focus: It is a great forum. What makes it special for me is the ability to exchange information, and to get help, quick. Classifieds are fine, but like Mastercard, exchanging ideas is priceless. You guys have done a great job; my hat is off to you. Jack I agree completely! Ken Grohs February 28th, 2006, 09:26 AM The "official notice" is located here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=61346 In short, there were two problems. First, a growing number of scam attempts. Second, a large influx of new members coming in for the sole purpose of listing or replying to the Classifieds (no offense intended, but those folks are not the people that I want to attract to this site -- I prefer instead to have members who are into the spirit of friendly, productive community discussions about digital video). Well I doubt seriously that this will effect the results you're looking for. If all you're basing access to the Classifieds section on is the number of posts, well it's not too difficult to place a simple response post to dozens of topics in order to meet that requirement. Then what? Will you have a "quality of post" factor to determine that a person is posting "quality" material instead of just trying to up their post count? Personally I have been able, by the wonderful capabilities of your site, to obtain several pieces of DV-related equipment from terrific people at prices that didn't put me into the poorhouse, and for that I am truly appreciative!! I totally agree with prior posts on this topic that it's mainly the "newbies" that are in the greatest need of good equipment at reasonable prices. Not the commercially-established corporate "regulars" that are funded by large companies. Chris Hurd February 28th, 2006, 05:31 PM If all you're basing access to the Classifieds section on is the number of posts...But that's not all I'm basing it on. I've lost count now of how many times I've said that it also depends on length of time as a registered member. Someone might have only five posts, and still have access to the Classifieds because they've been with us for more than a couple of months. Ken Grohs February 28th, 2006, 06:29 PM But that's not all I'm basing it on. I've lost count now of how many times I've said that it also depends on length of time as a registered member. Someone might have only five posts, and still have access to the Classifieds because they've been with us for more than a couple of months. Well, I've been a member since January 2005, or 14 months, and I don't have access, so I'm not really sure how long you were referring to. Seems one needs far "more than a couple of months". I'm not trying to be a pain. I appreciate your site to the fullest. Just trying to figure out what the rules are. Realistic clarification would indeed be appreciated, based on the above. Thanks! Chris Hurd February 28th, 2006, 06:33 PM According to the forum member database, it says you *do* have access to the Classifieds. Contact me by email and we'll try to sort out what's wrong. Tyge Floyd March 1st, 2006, 08:41 PM I commend the thought of keeping the classifieds as fraud free as possible. With that in mind, if the latest post I can see is Feb 27th, does that mean I am locked out? If so, I'm deeply disappointed. Chris Hurd March 2nd, 2006, 01:49 AM No, it just means that the most recent posts haven't yet passed through the moderation que. I'm running them now, so you should be seeing the most recent activity at this time. John Astad March 3rd, 2006, 03:19 PM I've really enjoyed the DV Forum here and have learned quite a bit. I'm disheartened to find out now that there is a dark cloud of my new membership since I haven't posted enough posts. So now I'm possibly a scammer and dishonest person since I haven't reached the 100 post mark. Well I guess I don't get to participate in the DV classifieds for awhile. Where else to go except EBay? Happy shooting everyone, John Astad Santa Fe, Texas Chris Hurd March 3rd, 2006, 03:32 PM So now I'm possibly a scammer and dishonest person since I haven't reached the 100 post markI don't understand why everybody thinks they need 100 posts to see the Classifieds forum. That's not the way it works. If you've been a member for more than a month or two, that will get you in even if you have only four or five posts. I've lost track of how many times I've had to clarify this. We don't consider anybody to be a possible scammer or a dishonest person. All newcomers are automatically assumed to be first-rate, honest, trustworthy folks. Access to the Classifieds is simply a privilege that is extended to those new folks who have chosen to stick around awhile and settle in, as opposed to some people who are just "passing through." Sure hope that's clear enough, Charles Marshall March 4th, 2006, 09:57 PM ive been a member for a few months now , what gives Robert M Wright March 4th, 2006, 10:07 PM Since Feb 2006 is a few months? Might want to flip back to the correct page on the calander there. Charles Marshall March 4th, 2006, 10:26 PM yeah i checked the date after i posted. let me restate that Ive been an avid follower for a few months now' you joined in jan and you have 20 times more post then me. Do you mind if i borrow some Robert M Wright March 4th, 2006, 10:32 PM I can understand a level of frustration in trying to find a good, safe marketplace to buy and sell used gear on the internet, and I can certainly relate to a certain disdain for eBay as a marketplace. This site's primary purpose is not even akin to serving as a marketplace. This site is a great place to learn, and exchange information (it's purpose). I'm glad Chris is taking steps to see that this site does not degenerate into yet another site on the internet, clogged with advertising and teaming with crooks. I did purchase a camera from a classified ad on this site, which was an excellent transaction for both parties, and I do plan to offer some gear for sale in the classifieds in the future, but that is not even close to why I'm here at all. Don Boosinger March 5th, 2006, 02:39 PM How about opening up the viewing part. I can understand the fake listing thing - I am new and do not want to list anything - but it would be nice to possibly purchase something from a trusted member. thanks Chien Huey March 5th, 2006, 09:39 PM Chris, I feel your pain. I check this thread here and there just to see where the debate is going. In the past couple days you posted twice that post count isn't the arbiter of classifieds access. Yet people still persist in saying they need to boost post count! COME ON PEOPLE! It's not post count. In fact, Chris has virtually stated what the criteria is - so much so that whatever scammer deterrent effect is probably nullified. Sorry for the rant but it's frustrating when people don't read. Chris Hurd March 7th, 2006, 11:07 PM How about opening up the viewing part... it would be nice to possibly purchase something from a trusted member.Stick around for a couple of months and you can. Consider it part of the reward for hanging out here regularly! Joven OHara March 10th, 2006, 04:32 PM Just want to say "THANK YOU" to Chris and all of the moderators for trying to keep all of US safe from scammers. For those who are complaining that you have so many posts and have been a member for awhile.....my advise is to make sure you sign in. I was also a liitle worried because I could not see the classifieds...until I signed in....Duh!! :-) Again...thansk all!! Raza Ahmad March 10th, 2006, 09:07 PM Well, as much as I love reading around on this place, I've got to say that this whole hullabaloo borders on the inane. When I joined up here, it was for one purpose: to gain information leading to the purchase of used equipment. I did that, read around, read reviews, complaints, then found somone selling a used GL-2 in the forums. I used escrow for the transaction, and it went by beyond smoothly. I payed a few extra $ to make sure I didn't get burned, and in turn I didn't. The internet is a jungle. Part of being a smart buyer is learning to protect yourself and your money in that jungle. Alienating fresh fry is, in my mind, not the answer. I wish there was some way we could track and disembowl scammers, but we can't, so we have to hope that theres some intelligent being up there who reserves a special place in hell for them, complete with torture instruments from the middle ages of earth and large speakers playing britney on a loop. Until then, the best policy is caution, defensiveness and research. I love this board, and love the people on here, but I don't need you to protect me. If I get burned, I learn my lessons and move on. Thats the way life should be. My $0.02. Yay. One more post. Maybe I'll be able to look at the classifieds now. -raza Chris Hurd March 10th, 2006, 09:49 PM I don't need you to protect me.I agree with you all the way -- you don't need me to protect you. Unfortunately though, not everybody feels that way and we live in a litigious society. A scammer puts me at risk to a certain degree of liability. I don't want to find out what that's like. But in the long run, it really isn't about scammers; it's about earning a privilege. Yay. One more post. Maybe I'll be able to look at the classifieds now.I don't understand what you mean by that. You've been a member since 2004. Of course you can look at the classifieds (I checked your account and yes you have access). You've always been able to. I don't know how many times I have to say this -- your post count doesn't matter. Being a member for more than a couple of months, is all that matters. And you are that. Raza Ahmad March 10th, 2006, 10:05 PM Ah litigation. Now that you bring that up I see your point of view much more clearly. And I am indeed able to view the classified... didn't see them but then realized its because I don't log in until after I make a post... Sorry bout that. Raza Alan Craven March 11th, 2006, 04:17 AM I have viewed this thread with some interest, and reckoned that the stance taken by the moderaors was entirely justified. Until today I had never used Classified, but have always been able to view it. today I have tried three times to place a post in Classified, but my post has not appeared. I have been a member for two or three years, made over 100 posts, and alwyas log in when I visit. So I am left wondering just what are the criteria for qualifiaction to use the Classified section of the board. Could it be because I am not based in the USA and therefore have little chance of selling? Raza Ahmad March 11th, 2006, 04:44 AM I think part of whats causing all all the mixups and thus Chris' frustration is a lack of information. I stumbled upon this thread but had been wondering for a few days now what had been going on with regards to the classified forum... Couldnt there somehow be a method to make a clear announcement with information regarding this change, for example: A forum called "Private Classifieds" that everyone can view, with a single sticky post announcement, and then the real thing, hidden away somewhere for the priveliged.... Anyway... just a thought... Raza Chris Hurd March 11th, 2006, 08:20 AM today I have tried three times to place a post in Classified, but my post has not appeared. That's a forum software glitch. See the mention at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=62324 -- I'm trying to get it fixed. Your post is there now. Sorry about that, Edward Slonaker April 4th, 2006, 11:29 AM And just when I was beginning to question what "a couple months" meant, BANG!, I can now see the classifieds. Thanks, Chris!! Bill Rankin April 22nd, 2006, 06:05 PM I had access to the classifieds, but not any longer. Have I been excluded? Bill Chris Hurd April 23rd, 2006, 10:46 AM Hi Bill, I show you as having access. Try logging out and back in again. Mike Donley October 9th, 2006, 12:08 PM I've been a member here for a couple of years, but not many posts. I located the classifieds one time a couple of months ago, but cannot find it again. What is the link? Chris Hurd October 9th, 2006, 12:27 PM Mike the link is http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=16 and you should be able to see it. Tom Houston February 23rd, 2007, 10:26 PM I joined the DVInfo forum back in 2003 but only posted one question then about the "new" DVX100 but I read TONS of excellent information about the camera and how to use it. I can honestly say that I am a DVX expert thanks to this board. Time flies when your having fun/working and I'm back now in 2007 and I have upgraded from the DVX to an A1. From reading this and other threads it seems that I don’t have the privilege to contact other DVinfo members who may be interested in my used DVX. I think it is sad that I can't interface with people who I know would be interested in a mint condition piece of gear at a fair price. Instead, I'm forced to use either B&H or fleabay to sell my baby:( B&H said they'd give me a fair price for it but I'd rather it go to a good home with someone from this group who loves this stuff as much as I do. It’s personal thing I guess. Very sad... Boyd Ostroff February 23rd, 2007, 10:30 PM I joined the DVInfo forum back in 2003 Unfortunately the system shows your membership date as this month (Feb 2007) so you must have re-registered? If you hang around a little longer you should have access to the classifieds soon. Chris Hurd February 23rd, 2007, 10:37 PM Don't re-register with a new name and that won't happen. I've merged your new account with your old one, so you should have Classifieds access now. Paul Cronin April 18th, 2007, 07:28 AM Hi Chris, I seem to have the same problem since I changed my e-mail. I changed my company name to reflect my video work. Is it possible to link my accounts? Thanks |
