Why can't I use a cheap TV from Costco or Walmart as a NTSC monitor while editing? I know it's resolution isn't going to be the greaest, but if a lot of what I'm putting out is gong to VHS, it's just going to be shown on someones TV.

I found this on B&H but for that price I could score something really nice for the family.

This thread (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4842&highlight=production+monitor)may be of interest to you. If your work isn't for broadcast or you can accept inconsistencies in your color workflow than a good consumer monitor may be fine.
