View Full Version : My HD1 has Split Screen Effect

As stated in another thread I am experiencing the dreaded SSE on my HD1.

I went to Sanyo Hong Kong for repair and after an initial/failed attempt they simply exchanged all the electronics with a new donor camera and just kept the plastic with the same serial number.

The technician sent the remains of my camera to Sanyo Japan for further analysis. He himself seemed perplexed by this whole problem.

The kicker is however tha the replacement electronics from the donor camera ALSO have the SSE!!

Now it is not as pronounced as with my old camera, but it happens over a wider range. My old camra would only show it under very dim conditions, now it is visible even in a well-lit room.

The tech told me to wait for 2 months and then come back - presumably once Japan acknowledges and fixes this problem.

Another user in this forum is having similar problems with his camera bought in HK, too.

So far, I have not seen any US users mentioning this - could it be that US models undergo a special calibration process? I recall the HD100 threads mentioning something like this.

Anyway, if there are more people out there, please step forward!

Moved to from the general HD forum to the HD1 forum. What I don't understand is, I thought this camcorder had only one DSP. If that's true then how can it have a split-screen effect?

Would you mind moving it back?

Dang, I hate it when different manufacturers use the same model numbers!

Just a note to say that my cam came directly from HK (eBay) and doesn't seem to exhibit this problem.

I do seem to be encountering an audio problem, however, which I will start a fresh thread on.

Mine also (US) does this but only in low light and ONLY when using the zoom IE it does not seem so far to do it when in full wide or full tele

it also SEEMS to not do it if I only zoom 1.8 or lower 1.9 starts the problems.

I have not really pushed it I will try that more later and see if I can prove whether it has any relation to zoom.
