I bought a new editing system today. Hopefully I will be able to edit HDV...more than just a couple frames at a time. :) Had somewhat limited funds, so I could not go crazy, but I was able to get a dual core chip and a 20in wide LCD. Here's the rest of the detail...

Scott, How do you like Canopus?? Do yo have 3.61?

I have played with Premier, Vegas, and Canopus. Just a personal preference here, but I like Edius. I do have version 3.61. I find the interface easier to use. If I had a second choice I would choose Premier. It could be that when I was trying these differenct aps out I played with Edius more and got used to the interface. I have had no issue with Edius and find it easy to use. It still has A LOT of features that I am still learning how to use, and A LOT of cool things that can be done with it once it do learn more. You will find opinions on all sides, but I prefer Canopus.

I got my new PC yesterday and got it all hooked up. I captured 18min of HDV footage and it worked great. Just so everyone knows, if you use Edius 3, HDV will work with a dual core Intel. I have a 3.6Ghz with 2gb for reference. Their specs list a Dual Xeon 2.8 as the min requirements. And the 20in wide monitor is wonderful.

I have not used premier or vegas with my new setup. I would image it would work fine. I have had very little slow down editing 2 streams of HDV with transition and titles. Anymore streams than that and it gets a little jitterey.

Good to hear your system is up and running. A couple of quick questions...

1. When you say HDV, are you reffering to native HDV or the Canopus HQ format? I gave the native HDV a spin and couldn't stand it. HQ seems alot friendlier to edit in.

2. How is the output to HD monitor like with the 6800 card? I find with 7300 GS that i get artifacts from interlaced output. Was wondering what your experiences were like in this regard.

I got it from Dell so actuall specs are not that easy. It is an XPS 400. Here is the link to the system specs that include at least the chipset of the MB.

Canopus HQ. I did do some .m2t editing but not enough to have any issues. The Canopus HQ codec works great with no noticeable loss in quality.

Unfortunately I do not have an HD monitor. I use a Dell 20 in widescreen to edit. I have a Toshiba HD projection that I output to for viewing and it looks pretty nice, but that is straight from the camera.
